Help-new, got gsr yesterday 5000rpm engine shuts down
Hi, im sorry if i posted in the wrong section-
i looked and this seemed the most reasonable...
short intro then problem-HELP please
i jsut got a 98 gsr with 128,000 yesterday- i knew what i wanted and did my reaserch...
i am mechanically inclined and have worked on alot of bugs before-but this gsr aint no VW--i am new to parts, and new to front engine set up but already after one day...PRoblem
originally - i felt the v-tec kick in when i drove it - i felt it right around 5-5 1/2rpms
then when i was driving home- the car jsut jolts when i hit 5rpms-right around where v tec is supposed to kick in- the car stays running and will run fine
but come 5rpms the engine just bam-somewaht dies and makes the car just jolt
someone sed it could be the oil canister or something like that right below the battery
HELP please-
ps the distributor and skark plug wires are all tight and snug in place

Are you hitting rev limiter? if the car is not warm it will hit rev limiter if you try and take it into vtec. btw, in a stock gsr vtec switch is at 4400 and the secondaries on the im open at 5800. throwing any codes? just a thought...
yea vtec is at 4400, try and distinguish if its happening at 4400 when vtec hits, when secondaries open or otherwise, that may help diagnose something too...

everything is fine but it is the vtec-i kinda know a shop so we ran it and it does get power to the valve
but the spool valve? may be bad-300 bucks-from the dealer just for the part-anywhere to get it cheaper?
this is a mickeymoused car- time to set everything back to order then mod from there
oh yeah- when we ran it through the OB2 computer
its sed like "vtec problem lower bank"
