the problem is that when i get my car up to 5000 rpms it will start popping really bad and no longer accelerates past where it is when it starts to pop. It doesnt do it all the time only once and a while. This is the second engine it has had since ive owned it (due to the previous owner). It still does it. i have replaced just about everything that i thought it could be... fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, had the 02 sensors checked..... im at a loss it also has horrible fuel consumtion. please help

Hows about timing? Have you checked that? And is it an LS or GSR?

 

it is a gsr...this is the second gsr engine that it has done it on.... would timing be a factor from engine to engine? could there be a problem in the ecu maybe? its hard to take it to a shop since it only happens from time to time. Those times never seem to be when i get it to the shop so it looks like im crazy.

 

well since it does it on 2 different engines you have to look at all the things that were not changed over. ie ECU, Fuel pump, Filter (not likely), faulty wiring, sensors. Thats where I would start. Is it throwing any cel's

 

try whats easy to get to first. get another ecu and see if that is the problem. i know when my ecu was in limp mode, it would rev to 3k and pop and shoot huge fire. thats due to it running really rich....it was in the 9's afr on a wideband

 

so its not revving pass 5000? are you sure theres oil?

 

is there a check engine light?

 

yes there is oil. i always do my own oil changes and it got mobil one full synthetic every 2700 miles... i have taken good care of it but the idiot who owned it before me did god knows what... *****i apprciate everyones help on this subject so far****

 

yes there is a cel. i have not had a chance to get it checked again since the new engine but on my old engine it threw a cel code that is not even a code on the list.... and the only code that is even close to the one that it threw belongs to a pre 1980 diesel volvo or something...***** again i appreciate everyones help*****
