Default hole in tranny?

hmm i look under my car and i see this decent size hole where the tranny meets the block. is this supposed to be there and if it is shouldnt something be blocking it off to keep out dirt/water etc..

Care to take a pic?

There's a panel/bracket that reveals the bottom part of the flywheel when removed.

^^^ its called a scatter shield. I havent had one for a long time and havent had any problems. When I took my tranny off there was nothing in there so I dont think you have anything to worry about that.

I can't find a decent picture of it, and I'm not even sure that this is it, but it looks similar to #14.

IIRC it mounts to the tranny and covers the lower gap between the tranny and block.

i might be wrong but if its a H or F series than there should be a rubber plug for it. ive seen alot of h22 in my area with the plug out and they run fine, ill keep mine in though
