Default Recalibrating the rpm gauge needle

There have been lots of discussions about how inaccurate the stock rpm gauge is (indicated 9000 rpm at ~8500 rpm). The posting by following post has

Do you have the stock needles then?? I put gauge faces on my girlfriends car(not indiglows) and the speedo is off by 10mph. All I did was have her drive next to me while I took the needle out and then put it back on at 60mph. Sounds kind of funny, but it worked. Set the cruise once the person tells you your at 60.

makes me wonder if the rpm needle could be similarly corrected.
