Default Anyone regret going Turbo on their S? Cant pick NA or Turbo! ARGH!

lately i cant make up my damn mind between NA or turbo

im going out of my mind!

anyone regret going Turbo?

anyone miss that vtec NA feel and scream?

the S is my daily driver for the next year or so and even once i pick up a beater, it will still be my daily driver in the summer.

mods i have so far that arent installed yet:

J's 70RR Headerback
Greddy Ultimate Emanage

i could use these mods for turbo or NA i guess...

but, someone help me before i go nuts

i will using my car for daily driving, maybe some occasional track racing, maybe a few autox but doubtful, and for messing around with the local car buffs around the twisties and highways (empty of course )

but primarily, i really want to enter my car into the next American Touge battles (flamesuit on)
So, im looking to make this car competative

my main focus will be handling

also, i never drag race

i know NA is pricy and doesnt wield much power, so you dont have to tell me that, but please help me before i go insane!

matt

when the time comes, you'll know!!!

I went with a simple I/H/E setup. BuddyClub Spec III, Test Pipe, J's Header, AEM V2 Intake (being shipped. i don't know if i'm going to put it on). when i want more, I'll throw on a Vortech S/C.

Supporting mods are teh best, since you already have them.

the only way i can see that anyone would regret turbo/sc setup, is if they half assed it, and did not take the special precautions that going forced induction requires.....

i.e stand alone engine management/ and a good tuner....

these cars handle boost well, if it is done Correctly

Drove a S/C'd AP1 w/ 4.77 gears. Too many noises, and really high strung.

Drove a turbo'd AP1 @ 8psi, 300ish whp. Nice rush, so-so response because he piggy-backed the tune.

Raced an CT S/C AP2 at SOW, he had maybe a second on me per lap. He pulled out of the corner and down the straights pretty well. All I could do was brake later.

Drove a 350whp FD RX-7. Now that's a frikkin turbo car. The S couldn't touch it. It was actually stable under boost out of a corner.

yeah, big wide rear tires make a nice difference, especially when you have a good rear diff, and a nasty LSD

True. He was on 255/285 Michelin Pilot Sports, and a Cusco LSD.

I've tracked with quite a few and always saw their rear end twitch if they got on the throttle too early out of the corners. Of course, these guys were running 500+rwhp. It's funny, cuz we both came in on the same lap at Mid Ohio - me with brake issues and he with cooling issues. Never drove one though.

I wouldn't know what to do with 500hp. I thought my 230whp was just right, til I pushed that 350, which was almost a bit too much considering the tight course that SOW was. 500 would probably make me slower.

= the law of diminishing returns. More power at the track is only good if you can get it down.

FWIW, I'm doing an NA build on my NSX with quite a bit less expected hp than a comparable, price wise, turbo build. Eventual ITBs. The reason why instead of a turbo? B/c I'd hate to have a point and shoot track car.

Control is the key. I can't make use of 500hp if I can't use 350 effectively.

I was referring to the FD RX-7, with Cusco LSD and 255F/285R tires.
