Need options with my ctr swap into itr
Hey, everybody, Im new to this forum and was looking for some feedback... I recently purchased an ITR #590 from a guy in Ohio (you may have heard of this). The car slung a rod bearing so I went ahead and bought a long block CTR B16B. I am well aware of the motor's potential and specs (and equally impressed). However, I still wonder what losses I will be taking with the transition from a 1.8 to a 1.6. Obviously the value of the B18C5 is higher, yet with my financial options, along with the availability of JUST a B18C or C5 long block being very slim w/o getting the full swap, I opted for the B16B. I got the longblock and everything else (distributor, manifolds, alternator, plugs, wires, and sensors) shipped to my door for 2300. Good deal? I hate to wonder "what if", yet I've been exploring my options for some time now and regardless, I would have come out at a loss. My logic? I plan on gaining back a good portion of that money by selling my ITR head, which is in perfect condition, and maybe the block, which needs a new rod bearing. I dont have the time to swap heads over to blocks and wait for stuff to get resleeved, redecked, resurfaced, honed, etc.... So, what's to be thought of this decision??
I stopped reading after the 3rd line. Stop what you are doing right now, sell all the parts and just get a C5 or a JDM C motor. If you dont know how to pull the heads, etc etc. Just sell it as a whole. Spend a bit more, monetary and time. Welcome to the forum.
I hate to say it on your first post but you may get flamed really bad for this. Sell the B16B & get the B18C5. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.
BTW, welcome to H/T.

For $2300, you couldve bought a B18C5 or a B18C longblock. I sold my entire B18C5 swap for $3100 local and my 00 JDM B18CR swap for $3500
The thing is, it's so damn hard to find those motors for a price around 2 grand (INCLUDING shipping). Plenty of short blocks out there, but that means I have to spend the time taking the head and putting it on the block, as well as timing it (which I cant do). I have general knowledge of the motor and reassembly of a longblock won't be too bad. Plus if I got a shortblock I'd be looking at having to send my head off to get resurfaced... it's more about time than anything, and this motor comes w/ 30xxx miles, leak and comp. tested, and a warranty so I know it's legit. Still, I'm &*@#$ pissed that it came to this in the first place. A stock B18C5 (of all motors) slings a rod bearing... that's my luck.
