other than the fact that a ITR has 1.8L and the CTR is a 1.6L block, the ctr is only about 10-15hp behind the ITR...what really makes the 1.6 CTR motor put out so much power...would a ctr bored out to 84mm be a better overall block than an ITR?

the ctr and the itr basically have the same block. The Ctr is like a destroked itr block. The b16b also has higher compression.

Re: biggest difference between CTR and ITR engines (VTHokie)
so it basically has a shorter stroke allowing it to rev higher and easier correct? but a shorter stroke adversly affect torque right?

displacement impacts torque.

if you bored a stock ctr block out to 84mm you'd be having some serious issues

Yes and No:

USDM ITR 10.6:1
JDM CTR 10.8:1
JDM/UK/Euro ITR 11.1:1

The B16B makes more revs.....

Re: biggest difference between CTR and ITR engines (BustaNutt-616)
obviously it would be sleeved first but a SLEEVED and bored to 84mm b16b block would seem like the best overall trade off for god torque and high revving

Redlines for the ITR and CTR are both 8400 RPM.

Pistons and about .2 of displacement.

BTW. the B18C6 rev limiter is at 8600 rpm

b16 has a shorter deck, so its not identical.

The redline and the rev limiter aren't the same thing.

The CTR has the same ratios as the USDM ITR and the '96-97 JDM ITR. The '98+ JDM ITR has a longer 4th and 5th, but a shorter final drive (4.785:1 vs 4.400:1).
