b16b or b18c-r
I have a friend who has a good knowledge about engines. He owns a fully built 10sec ls/vtec which was built by himself. Im planning to get an engine swap and was originally getting a b18c-r. He tells me that the ctr is more powerful than the itr engine because it has a bigger crankshaft, better pistons, better camshafts, better manifold, and shorter gears than itr. He also can get me the ctr engine for $3.9k with install. What are your opinions about this. Should i get it?

your friend is leading you astray, i suggest you find another car buddy. anyways, i'm pretty sure the b16b is nice to have, but the b18c has more tq/hp

Ummm...seems to me your friend just through some misguiding facts out of his a$$. There is no way a ctr is "faster" pr creates more hp/tq then the itr. Doesnt add up. So go tell him that he lied to and that you want to see his time slips if he still wants to be your friend, cause he prob. lied about taht 10sec ls/vtec car.

spend the extra money and get an ITR. you're gonna want to stroke that B16b after you drive it. try to get a 98+ jdm, higher compression and 4.7 FD.

bahahahhaahaaa!!!
B16B's are fun engines and you can make them pretty quick with some big cam upgrades. RyanR's B16B is a good example...but for the money factor, you're better off with an ITR engine, more bang ..err torque for your buck.

Re: b16b or b18c-r (Katman)
I heard that using itr crank and rods will make it practically an itr, but a bit faster. Is this true? How much do you guys think i need to spend to do this if true. Is it worth it?

yeah, when you do that its called 'stroking' and yes it "will be faster" and more torquier. But its more cost effective if you buy an ITR engine from the beginning rather than stroke a B16B to 1.8L later on down the line..

Yea go big or go home. Thats just like telling a person that bought a 330ci bimmer to drop another 15,000 down and go with the m3. He is gonna have to come up with at least a 1000-1200 more for a 98 itr. Now if you can find a 96 itr go for it. I was goona get a 96 spec itr from password but they were out so i got the ctr instead. I think you can get the 96 itr for 4000.
