b16 burning oil?
ok so i have a ej1 with a b16a i ordered from hmotors and i noticed today when i was getting on it that at the end of 2nd and end of 3rd out of my back window i could c some white/ blue smoke.
i couldnt tell what color it was exactly but is this normal or am i bruning oil?
i did a compression check last week and it was something like 240,241,242,243 so the numbers look good.
help please

depends...
hondas will burn a little oil way up in the rev range (at least most Ive seen)
Try it a few more times, see if its consistent with that along with checking more for color.
Worst case, IMO, valve seals

are valve seals hard to change out???
and i figured you know at 8500 rpms the motor is working very hard so i dont know if i should worry to much or not.
i was told the motor only had 39000 miles on it so if thats true or not i have no idea. the motor pulls very hard so i doubt theres something really messed up but i dont know

My guess is oil deposits. Alot of these motors sit a while before they're swapped in and ran. The long time sitting causes remaining oil to break down and once the motor is ran, is deposited throughout your motor. Even if you completely drain the motor and add new oil, the deposits will remain, eventually breaking down and usually seeps through the rings in small amounts at higher RPMs when there engine is circulating oil much more, hence the blue smoke. Try changing your oil adding some sort of engine treatment like this http://www.autobarn.net/chmf-3.html ..which can be found at at ANY parts store. Good luck

Well most of those additives are garbage at best. Check your honda manual. It says that your car does not need oil additives, and those can be detremental to performance. Oil additives are kind of like a crack fix. They seem to solve the problem in the now, but it only ends up getting worse.
To the OP. Even if it is blue/white smoke, this could just be a sign of running a tiny bit rich, or it could be carbon deposits blowing out of your exhaust. I wouldnt worry about it. Really any motor is going to burn a LITTLE oil. Think about it....you're revving to 8k+, there's bound to be a drop or two going past the rings. You'll be surprised at how much smoke even a TINY bit of oil will make. We once poured a half quart slowly into an intake manifold of a motor we were trying to blow up while it was sitting on its rev limiter...MAN THAT WAS AWESOME!!
Anyway, unless you're burning a substantial amount, i woulnt worry. My mint B16, all my D series motors, my friends H22, My GSR, My s2000 (with 21k on it) ALL burn a little bit of oil. I mean its about a half quart or less between oilchanges (my B motors and my S2000).
Shops around here quote $200 for valve seals parts and labor. Genuine parts.

he wasnt talking about additives.... the de- GUNK on the link is simply a flush you put in right before you drain the oil, (kinda like seafoam). Ive used the de-GUNK before and i dont claim anything by it.
i do aggree though, every motor burns a little oil at 8k+- but nothing excessive (more than .5 quarts every 3k miles) like stated above.

wow thanks for the responses everyone. i wasnt to worried bout it but after sitting and thinking about it for like an hour i started to worry a lil bit. neways i use mobl 1 10w30 with mobil 1 oil filter. would you suggest running seafoam through it???

nah. i wouldnt worry about the seafoam. Driving it hard and highway driving will take care of carbon deposits that may be there. Use 5w-30, though. Also use a honda filter. They are MUCH nicer than aftermarket. lol i get them for free since i have tech friends at honda.

welp bad news i checked my oil today and i was a quart low and i have no more than 1000miles on the oil....i think it might be the head gasket it might be broke or torn around a oil passage so i guess im gonna pull the head off....
