Default hole in the muffler

I drive a 1997 Honda Civic DX. I went to start my car yesterday, leaving work, and there was a really loud noise when it was running. As I drove away, it sounded like I blew a hole in the muffler...

So, I stopped at a shop to have someone take a look at it, and sure enough, there's a hole. I went somewhere else today and they said there is a hole and a cracked exhaust pipe or something of that nature? I don't quite remember.

Anywho, has anyone else ever experienced? How much did you end up paying after everything was said and done? I have got a few estimates so far but I'm still searching...

Also, will this affect my engine at all? I'm going to get it fixed within the next week.

It's probably cheaper to buy an aftermarket exhaust than buying a honda genuine exhaust system, then install it yourself.. It's really easy, all you have to do it take off the hangers, and unbolt the exhaust from the cat-converter.

yeah.. why bother getting a new muffler thats just gonna rust out again.. Get a nice after market stainless steel exhaust system.. Theres many companies out there that make nice quiet looking stock exhaust systems

Another choice. When i first got my car it had a huge fart can on it. welded on, pure hack job, I went to midas. they replaced from the CAT back. Yes its expensive, 400 and some change. Theres a lifetime warranty on the muffler, i went back just over a year later cause i backed up into a railroad tie and his just my muffler tip, it became loud. i took it back and they put a new one on no questions.

there gonna rape you with any exhaust system that the muffler shop is going to offer. wait a few days and check out the honda-tech marketplace, and buy a aftermarket muffler

If you want quite get the twin-loop muffler.
