Default Help bleeding brakes.

My brakes suck! I was told I needed a new master cylinder. I got it and put it on, but my Haynes manual told me to bench bleed the cylinder. I didn't have the supplies to do it so I just put it on and was going to bleed each brake individually. Is this going to work? Also, does the car have to be on to bleed the brakes.

No, the car should be off and level to the ground when bleeding brakes.

you HAVE to "bench bleed" or else you'll never get all the air out of the MC.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is "bench bleeding." I'm planning on upgrading my brakes on my crx, and need to change my MC too. Thanks

Bench bleeding basically is getting brake fluid into the the MC before mounting it in the car. This speeds up and simplifies the rest of the bleeding procedure.
