low oil pressure question
I have been reading up on oil pressure specs and mine is low. On my b16 motor I am getting 15psi at warm idle and onley 40-42 at 3000rpm. It should be atlest 50psi.
I have my pressure sending unit teed in to my turbo feed line. And I was thinking that this may be the cause for the low oil pressure.
How can I get an accurate reading and still get oil to my turbo? Or is it accurate the way I have it now with the tee feeding the turbo aswell?
By the way I am useing delo 15-40 motor oil.

is that 3000 rpms under load or sitting still?
those pressures don't sound terrible to me. hell I know some chevy guys who would kill for those readings! LOL

check for oil leaks...ie cam seals or main seals...i had a leaky rear main seal and oil pressure would only be at 25 now my gsr runs 50psi at idle and 80 under load so those readings seem very low to me

No not really. My oil pressure will get up to about 45psi around 3k rpms then kinda just stay there up to 5 or 6k.
I have not checked it at redline.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by aboobybobpleez »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">check for oil leaks...ie cam seals or main seals...i had a leaky rear main seal and oil pressure would only be at 25 now my gsr runs 50psi at idle and 80 under load so those readings seem very low to me</TD></TR></TABLE>
My cam seal leaks a little but I don't think I would cause a lose of oil pressure. I think that is the onley leak. oh my oil pan gasket leaks to but I will be reaplaceing that soon.

I was having oil pressure problems in my Integra and discovered it was the oil pan touching the oil pump pickup. From the outside the pan was scratched a little, and didn't look "dented." But, it was flattened a little from being moved around on the ground. Check that out first.

I did hook up a macanical gauge under the hood just to test and the #s were the same as the one in side my car.

My pan is all good except that the gasket leaks. But I do have a moroso baffled pan and new gasket that I will install soon I was not expecting this to help my oil pressure but mabey It will.
I think It has to do with the sending unit beening on a tee so it is not seeing full pressure, some of it is bypassing the sending unit and going to the turbo.
But this is onley a guess. Mabey my oil pump is no good?

maybe the gauge is bad itself...did u try another gauge??
i have a line coming off the back of the block with a T..one side has the stock oil psi sencer and the other side has the sencer for my psi gauge...it was working well...now when i start the car it sticks around 30psi..cold or warm...and barley moves when i rev it..and when i shut the car off it sticks on 25psi or so....so im gona get a new gauge ...or do i have mine hooked up the wrong way?

having the oil feed and oil press sensor tee'd together is your problem.
I suspected this as well on my car and I seperated the two and now the gauge reads higher pressure.
The velocity of the oil being sucked into the turbo causes a false reading on the gauge.
