rev limiter help b16 eg
hello i recently bought a b16 swapped 92 vx hb. the rev limiter kicks in at different rpms. its still the stock rpm gauge though. i was wondering if someone could answer some questions for me. 1 what should the rev limiter kick in at? 7200? or 8200? i know that the redline i 8200 but that the power band ends around 7200. currently it usually kicks in between 6500 and 7200. ive also noticed that it kicks in at consistant mph in each gear. i believe 30-35 mph 1st, 65 or so 2nd, and 90-95-3rd. i can usually shift it perfect if i play it by ear but if i watch my gauge i get thrown off by the readings. its got a p28 ecu for mt. anyone got any ideas? also how many rpms should i be at going 70 mph in 5th? my d15 94 hb doesn't have a rpm gauge and no exhaust and sounds like its running at a lower rpm than my new b16 civ. but the new one has exhaust and i could just not be used to the extra noise.
Your tach is probably off. Mine is.
Is your P28 chipped or just a P28? If it is just the P28 it is a sohc ecu and no wonder your car is going crazy.
tunewithcrome.com and burn a chip with a different rev limit. My b16 makes power all the way up to 8500 with b16 cams.
I shift at around 8300 when I race. We don't know what your rpm should be at, What kind of tranny do you have?
Mine is at around 3700, 3800 at 70 mph.

ok thats about what mine is at at 70 mph. is that normal? it seems high. my sunfire is usually around 2700 at 70 mph. i have no idea if the p28 is chipped or not. are there any easy ways to tell if it is or not? you say that ur car keeps making power up to 8k+ but dyno graphs show the b16 drops of after 7200 and starts losing power.
easy way to tell if its chipped....pull out ecu and open it up. 4 bolts to remove it, 4 screws to remove the cover. check the ecu thread in the FAQ to find out what to look for
k thanks. ill find out if its chipped or not and then if it isn't i may end up buying one thats chipped. i dont wanna get it sent in to be chipped cause im gonnna need that p28 probably another time anyways. i have another eg with a d15 that im waiting for the engine to go. i beat that thing but it just keeps going and going damn ha
