D15B with P28 hits rev limiter at 6000... not 7200 any help please
Hello, I have a 94 EG hatch 5 speed with a D15B with a P28. I searched for answers but nothing. I hit the rev limiter at 6000. Today I tried a friends stock p28 from his d16z6 delsol and same thing.. hits rev limiter at 6000. I know this motors redline is at 7200. No CEL code. Can't figure it out. Want to use the motors potential. Any help would be greatful thanks.

my z6 w/p28 limits at 6200 when it should limit around 7400. I just assumed my tach was off.

I would die laughing if it was a different series ecu in a p28 case with "p28" written on it.
But on a serious note, it sounds pretty bad. My stock del sol, with the governor installed hits 7400 rpm (fuel cut off, 7200 being ideal max redline) and works just fine.

It would be funny but obviously it couldn't be a different ecu in a p28 case because I have tried multiple p 28 ecus...

Weird.... mabe it depends what year the motor is? Cuz ive seen some Ex civics(92-95) with d16's have a 6500 or something around that as redline. While mine starts at 7200. I can even take pics of 2 diffirent ex/si clusters and you can tell from those clusters.

Yeah I can't figure it out my self, and I don't really want to chip the ecu or get a tuning device. I'm thinking the tach might be off... i'm going to check that next.
Its the cluster with the tach on the left speedo in the middle, and fuel and water temp on top of each other on the far right.

All d16z6's redline at 7200 rpms. The tach's that you are referring too (with the 6500 redline) are from LX models.
Your p28 would allow ANY engine (not just the z6) to rev to 7200.
that being said, and you've tried different ECU's, --- it's not your ECU. It's your distributer. That is causing a rev limit. Could be messed up wiring, could be messed up sensors, but it's your dizzy for sure.
If you can try a different one, I'm sure your car will rev up to the limit of 7200.

Sweet I'll have to mess with that. That makes me wonder. The guy I bought the car from told me that the base timing was off. Occasionally while at idle car jumps from 800 to 1300 rpms sometimes faster and sometimes slower. Also when driving good and shifting for good gas mileage the car likes to bog and chug as if though I am bogging it down but the rpms are not down far enough for it to want to bog at all. Thats probably my problem then. I'll just have to look into all that more.
