I broke my door.
like the topic says...my door wont close all the way unless i slam it shut. the little mechanism inside it is busted i think...i dunno. what can i do to fix this and is it expensive? i dont wanna drop anymore money into this car...
im not familliar with the mechanism but maybe somthing got knocked out of place and holds it shut, or maybe its a worn out spring.. i cant really think of anything you can try except overhauling the latch. it shouldnt be hard to fix yourself as long as you dont have the parts left over syndrome.
damn...oh well. i dont have that syndrome lol. and i know the junkyard wont let me take apart their door...so i guess it's one last trip to the stealership before i sell the car.
the little sensor that detects whether the door is open or not may have become loose.
If it has, it might keep your door from shutting all the way unless you slam it (it would also probably break your door sensor).

What gen teg is it? I have a 3rd gen and theres 3 screws on mine that hold that "mechanism" in place... Very easy to get off, 3 screws and 2 rods(lock and release). Once you take your door panel off you can access the rods and the part itself. It can sometimes be tricky to find a 3rd gen in a salvageyard but if you can I can almost guarentee that part will still be in the door if the door is there; and you should be able to find a yard that will let you take it out, I know I have them all around me that would.... As for a 1st or 2nd gen Id assume it would be about the same except they will be more readily available in the salvage yard... goodluck

i took a closer look at it earlier. the little black rotating piece that locks onto the hook is broken...well part of it chipped off. that's why it wont grab right. the fragmented piece is probably out in some parking lot from where i some how broke it. anyone know how to fix this?
