It shouldn't be a problem, if cut correctly. Obviously the timing belt and gears are subject to more debris, but as long as you aren't rallying or constantly driving down dirt roads, it shouldn't be a problem.

I ran my Integra without the middle TB cover for over 2 years (Forgot to put the backing after I put on the new belt, was too lazy to redo everything just for that cover...)
Also had a friend with nothing at all protecting his timing belt on a 400+ HP boosted Integra, never any problems.

One of my customers cut the cover on his Ford Escort Zetec engine and a small rock went into destroy his plastic timing idler pulley.

I'm guessing the rock flew in through his useless hood scoop, but when I told him this, he said he couldn't block the scoop because his car was slow without ram air. No joke, this guy is an idiot.

You gotta love it. I decided that i will just use the cut valve cover for tuning and not driving. In the mean time i have been drawing up and figuring out some plans to make removable "plugs" for the holes. I have a few ideas that should work so we will see.

I personally love cut valve covers, moon cuts, etc. Then I do not have to give a warranty on engines I build, as I advise against them. Kinda like running no air filter, no warranty.

I bet, not having to warranty something would be nice...and because of that reason i am choosing to run un-cut after i get tuned...until i get the pugs figured out. Even then im not 100%

Cover it with aluminum duct tape after adjusting.
