CNs: Is there a way to look at my timing belt without taking off the valve cover?

I want to check out the condition of my timing belt. Is there anyway to take off the upper timing belt cover WITHOUT removing the valve cover? I gave it a shot today and I couldn't get it off. I looked at DIY threads and it says to remove the valve cover first, but I wanted to make sure.

Nope, gotta remove it, the timing cover sits in a groove in the valve cover if you tried to do it you would break the timing cover.

Yea I noticed that. I was thinking maybe I could bend out the lower part of the cover and then slide it down, but that wasn't happening lol.

If after you take the cover off and modify it, you can take it off without taking the valve cover off. However, it's not going to tell you much. A belt that looks fine can snap.
