Type One muffler rattling
Posting this here because I figured a few more guys with ITRs had Type One mufflers than the people over in the EG forum.
Anyway, I installed my Type One EG6 rear section on Sunday. I love the sound, but today the muffler is rattling out of control. To me, it sounds like something came loose inside the muffler and is rattling around. Anyone have any idea what it could be or if there is anything I could do to fix it?

I have a cat, but no resonator. Does that count as a straight pipe? And it's not the loudness I'm concerned about, it's the rattling.
B2FiNiTY: So you want me to just take off the muffler and see if the exhaust still rattles? I don't know...to me it really sounds as if the noise is coming from the muffler itself.

You may be hitting one of the heat shields somewhere. Look for areas of very little clearance between the exhaust and the heat shields. You may be able to stretch the hangers to get more clearance.

The rattling you describe sounds like a heatshield. Check the one under the shift linkage first.
Either that or you have one with defective bearings.

I bet it's your exhaust rattling against your suspesion arms. Or do you have a rear sway bar? It might be hitting that also. Try going out of your car and bang on the muffler up down and side to side. Min was hitting but I insulated my bars with rubber hose. Hope this helps.
