Default Went to the track tonight.

I decided to take my jdm type r to the track just to see what it can do. Man did I have a horrible night. Lets just say my best time was a 15.5 @91 mph. I dont know if it's the track or weather, but I had nothing but wheel hop. So bad I had to let off before I break something. After I manage to get pass that, my car started missing. Around 6 rpm to redline(8400) is when it starts missing. After second run, I checked around and notice one of the spark plug wire wasn't on tight. I popped it back in place and did a last run. The car still did bad wheel hop but 1st and 2nd was ok to redline. 3rd gear and up started missing again.

What's causing my car to miss near redline? I gapped my spark plugs at .034 with new denso iridiums.

You went to the dragstrip, not to the track.

If you want to go to the track, come to the ITR Expo 7. The Expo will be held at a track, not at a dragstrip.

Wheel hop eh ? What'd you lower your tire pressure to ?
Also, I don't quite understand what you mean by your car started missing ?

I went to the dragstrip OK. There's no track around my area so i'm use to saying track for dragstrip. I'd love to go to the expo though. too far for me.

I lowered the tires to 25 psi. I can't really explain it. It's like there's no spark or something. It starts to sputter in the high rpms. kinda jerky. Felt like i was driving on 3 cylinders. (somebody help me here if you know what i'm talking about.)

I also had my shocks set on the hardest setting (tein SS coilovers).

motor mounts and riding that clutch out will help your wheel hop. I lowered my tires to 13 psi at the track and improved my time by 3 tenths. your misfire seems to be with your spark. check wires plugs etc., are you supposed to gap iridium's? are they pre gapped.

the motor mounts looks to be ok but they should probably be change anyway? How would riding the clutch help with the wheel hop? Just asking. I checked the oil and it look a bit low and kinda black. Oil has about 2k miles on it. I went ahead and changed it though. I checked the spark plug gap again and it was around .037. I regapped them to .034 and took the car for a test run after warm up. I didn't try to launch but the car did run smooth through redline. Now I gotta take it to the strip again to see what it does this time.

btw, I used an autozone spark plug gapper. That sh*t sucks. It's hard to check the gaps on the plugs.

use a feeler guage.....the same tool you would use for a valve adjustment. Cheap and multi purpose

Motor mounts will look ok but all truth is they go bad....they are rubber and as we all know rubber will not last forever. If you want to go a less expensive way just get the inserts. They do just fine if your not looking for crazy crazy stiffness or extreme use. Good luck

If its sputting at high RPM, I think it was your oil. In fact, I'm almost 100% sure it was your oil, you said it was black and at 2k, depending how hard you drove during that 2k it could've gone real bad.

My car would sputter at high RPM's too, I had changed my oil after about 3500 miles Then it ran like a champ again. At first,I thought it was something horrible.

When I bought the car, the guy said he did an oil change before I came. So I drove it home 1200 miles straight home, and 800 since. I figure the oil should still be good. I changed it anyway. I'll be keeping an eye on the oil more often.

All ITR's, when driven at high rpms will burn a little oil... some more than others.

Where's a good place to get new motor mount inserts? Are energy suspension mounts good?

I searched on line and was told to gap at .044. AFter that, the car wouldn't start. I lowered the gap and started right up.
