I wanted to start a discussion about the gTECH units.
My best 1/4 mile with a gTECH unit is 14.89 @ 99.7. I post the 14.89 as part of my sig. I get alot of IMs concerning my trap speed. I agree 99.7 is sort of high for a 14.89 sec run. But I do believe the 14.89 is accurate. Heres why:
My friend who owned the gTECH and who drove a S2000 at the time, took me to the track alot. He ran a few track runs with the gTECH running, and every run it was within a .001 sec + or - of the ET. I can't remember if the trap speed was accurate or not.
To date, my best track run is only a 15.11 @ 94. Thats quite a difference from 14.89. On the street with the gTECH I was able to choose my road surface and therefore didint get any wheel hop. At track tho, I always get wheel hop. Plus with a gTECH you can go when your ready and your not nervous like you maybe at a track with everyone staring at you.
I feel that gTECH results are what the car and driver are really capable of under ideal conditions. However that may not be replicable in the real world such as on a track. Which one is the more accurate reading in this case?
So what do you guys think about the gTECH? Do you respect it? Can I legitemately post 1320 times from a gTECH? Or would that make me a bad honda-tech member?

FREE, if you are in the market for new tires (with the purchase of Goodyear Tires, or Bridgestone, can't remember). Check Motortrend
Well 140$ is a lot but if you look at it like this...$5 for a friend to use...140/5=28...But who wants to use it just once? I mean at least 2 times a friend right? So 14! I have 14 friends with cars!!! I just got myself a free gTECH without buying any tires

GTech is consistent and ok as far as accuracy for the ET. Reason the MPH is kinda off is because the GTech measures the MPH as you cross the line.
At the track they measure the average of the last x feet.

I did not know that... but that makes perfect sense.
Thank you

The GTECH may not start "counting" till you've moved a couple inches, enough to throw the G-force to >.05G or something. Basically what I'm trying to say is that at the track, the clock starts when you "break the laser"...the Gtech starts when you reach the "critical G-force". They may or not be at the same time. Given that, you can't directly compare a track and a Gtech 1/4 time.
It IS very consistent though

Yah, the speed at the track i think is your avg speed through the last 60ft or somthing. Because the track doesnt have a speed detecting device, just a series of sensors that start and stop timing.
GTECH i think can be useful for tuning because it allows you to measure runs....sure it may not be the same as a track run, but then again, you still see descrepencies from track to track for the same reasons, pavement, alt, wind direction, and grade. If you GTECHed on the same road over and over again it will be a good indicator for improvement.

The GTech is consistent but not consistent with the dragstrip. It is a good to tool to use to compare your own GTech times to see if there are any improvements in driving and mods. If you post a GTech 1/4 mile time, I think you should specify that it is a GTech time. Otherwise you will have people calling it BS (usually for the high trap speed). BTW with your 94mph trap speed at the strip, you can definitely hit a high 14, you just need to get a good launch.
ummm g tech.. is it hard to install?
my friend let me use one and it was within tenths in the 1/4 mile compared to my actual track times but the trap speeds were higher. why? cause the g-tech is an accelerameter. doesnt start measuring till it feels the car move.
