b18c1 VAFC 2, car bucking problems
I have a 94- b18c1 in my EK.
This is my setup:
OBD1 motor
OBD2 ECU
CKF signal simulated with TDC\BTC from distributor.
The car starts to buck:
The engine is someone cold.
As soon as VTEC point is reached.
The VAFC lights up to signify that VTEC is engaged. Then the car buck simultaneously hovers around the set VTEC point. (LO->HI: 4400RPMs ::: HI->LO: 4300RPMs).
It feels as if the signal is not being sent. (I know this because a long time ago i didn't have a signal cuz the wire was cut.)
Again this happens more often when the engine is not warm enough and when im in VTEC for a while. (Like on the highway)
But if I shut off the motor and let it sit for a while then drive it again, its fine.
Another problem my car has is that it burns a lot of oil so i drive a lot with low oil and still engage VTEC like an idiot, and VTEC cuts in and out at full throttle.
Does anyone know what is going on?

do you think that the oil pressure sensor is reading out of limits? or..
is there a way to bypass or simulate a good signal so this doesn't happen?
is the ECU going into limp mode, when it senses a bad reading from the oil pressure sensor?

you have an "EG" (92-95) hatchback, which is obd1...and an obd1 motor....so why the hell are you using an obd2 ecu?? who did your tuning, and how did they do it, if it was even done?

well gee i wonder what the problem could be. i forsee a fucked engine in your future.

VAFC doesnt look for oil pressure in the engine. It bypasses EVERYTHING. Your VTEC will engage whether the engine is cold/hot bone dry/has proper oil level or even if there's no speed sensor signal. VTEC at idle when you start your car up with no oil in it if you want.
That being said...do you have all the sensors set right? I dont remember what # of sensors or what type you have to set it to...but if that's not right, it will throw off readings. Make sure you wired it EXACTLY how the diagram says. EXACTLY to the tee...its very important. Make sure your fuel maps arent all out of wack. You can go to the reset function ...it's called "initialize sensors" or something. Hit that and set everything for the B18C1 as per the manual. OBD2 ecu in an eg? thats weird...but either way....set everything for an OBD2 GSR.

yeah... didn't see that before. you should probably stop doing that? always have 2 qts of oil in your car if its that bad and check it frequently. and i wouldn't hit vtec and definitely not WOT if it's that low.

actually its an ek, i have and eg also, i have no idea why i typed eg
yeah, im experienced with the VAFC2,
im positive i have it hooked up right,
i knew the OPS is not sent to the VAFC2, so actually come to think of it, your right, the VAFC has total control of the VTEC engagement, but its odd when it happens around when the oil level starts to go low, but then again im think about the VTEC line, if the piggyback has a vtec wire from the ECU, im sure the ecu has some say in VTEC, right?
i mean this is intermittent though, it doesn't happen often, i mean it engages perfectly fine majority of the time,
my theory is that maybe that the OPS is reading out of limits, when its cold the oil is viscous and OPS reads high, also when the oil is low so OPS reads low, ECU goes into limp, when i clear codes, VTEC runs fine again, im sure ECU has some say.
thanks again guys

with my vafc not vafc2 the vtec wire going to the ecu had to be cut and routed through the vafc, not just splicing into the wire. if u had the vafc vtec wire just spliced onto cars vtec wire that might expletive up the vtec engagement?
