Bye bye ITR.. Suggestions for the next ride?
I have to part with my ITR because I don't want to fix it after a rollover.
I was going to try something different and need your opinions. Here's what I'm looking for:
- It MUST be very fun to drive
- Good balance and RWD is a plus
- I'm planning to take the car to autocross and track days as well as driving on the streets.
- I don't want to modify it
- It hurts when I'm thinking about another rollover, so it has to be on the cheep side (not dirt cheep though)
I was thinking about the Miata. People say it's a fun car. I tried it and it feels sloooow compared to ITR, but may be they right - you don't need to go fast to have fun. I checked prices for BMWs and to my surprise a used E36 328 costs about the same as a Miata.
It may be an option as well.
What other cars are out there, I?m having difficulty choosing one.
BTW, my rolled over 2001 ITR is for sale. It has 17000 km. Let me know if you know somebody who might be interested.

well...my next ride is going to a del Sol with all the goodies(probably an ITR motor if I can find a legit one). Miata's are ok, but Id go for a del Sol if I was you. I used to have a del Sol, until it got stolen. It had a B16 with lots of goodies, dumped to the ground, and it handled better than my R. Very well balanced and stable car. I get excited just thinking about it
Ryan - who misses his del Sol VTEC goodness

if it's the same price as the miata go with da bmw dude.

Wow, I had a very similar thread to this going a couple of days ago, read it for some decent responses:

Thank you TorontoR. The search is really bad here lately.
That poll is very interesting, but the majority of the cars there are too good to put on a track. I need to be sure tht if I roll it again, it's not going to destroy me financially. It helps build confidence, after I experienced how easy it is to do so
BTW, here's the link to the original thread I created:

EVO is definately a very good car. Let's say it costs 36.000 USD. In Canadian money it will be around 62.000 That's too much to have fun for me
Probably I'll shop for something used.

Hmm... rolled R.
Turbo miata would be nice.

For a couple hundred bucks though, you bolt in a roll bar and you'll be feeling better.
Once my R gets sold and I use the cash for a downpayment for a roof over my head..I wont have much left....
Thus, Im thinking early to mid 90's Talon or Eclipse.

I used to have a Plymouth Laser (same car as Eclipse) Tranny broke twice, radiator broke, brake gave up twice, door handle went south, radio broke... All of that happened withing 10 months of ownership. I'd stay away from them after having a honda.
1988-1992 RX-7 turbo II. 200hp, 196 tq. Runs about 14.4 in the 1/4 mile stock. Rear wheel drive, fun to drive, good to upgrade, can be found for VERY cheap....finding one in clean condition is the hardest part. Theres even a limited edition that came out in 1988..only 1500 made!
thats because it was a laser. . . i have had quite a few of all 3 of those cars and never had any problems. . . only stupid **** like the lighter would break and on a few of them the dash would get silly in the corn
ers and start to peel up . . . i love those things in turbo though. they are the easiest cars to do 10's street driven .

Remember, many groups that run track days will not allow an open top car on the track - some of them only if it has a roll bar, others won't under any circumstances. This may be a consideration if you're thinking Miata, del sol, or S2K.
In any case, look at sig. Meets all your requirements I believe! Oops, just reread..not the cheap part! I would get an mr2 turbo if you mean <$10-15K. Doesnt get much more fun than that. Look for a '93 with low miles.
