My friend blew his at 9psi . He now has JE pistons and eagle rods and is turning the boost to 10psi.

If you plan on running 9-12 psi, build your motor so it can handle it. Otherwise, you're gonna run into problems like the guys mentioned above.

From everything I have read, it seems that a stock b series should live for a long time with 9 lbs of boost IF it is properly tuned. If I ever decide to stop being responsobile (it is a curse) and go turbo, I am going to do the math, and put together a low cost, efficient kit, and spend the rest on Apexi PowerFC or similar with some professional instruction on fuel curve tuning.

Yea, I know it is a long sentence.

Unless your getting a 3 bar map sensor you can't run more than 11 PSI of boost anyway. But with proper tuning, you can run between 8 and 10 PSI of boost on a stock block. Above that, you should consider upgrading the bottom end.
