Default Got my Ls-vtec quote.

Well...here it is.

B16a fully built head:
3 angle valve job/ported/polished
overbored .020
JE forged pistons 11:1 w/ rings
New timing belt
CTR cams
Skunk2 cam gears
B&M FPR & guage
All bearings.
Balanced rods, and crank.
Labor
$5000

So....I just called acura and I can get a C5 longblock for 4857.55. What would you rather have a C5 or a built Ls-V?
Im happy with the LS for now (stay with new ludes- beat a n/a 300z last night.) But I know I'm going to want more..Im making good money right now, so this would be the time to do it. What would you do to an LS if you had 5g's?

-Jake

The B18c5 is a brand new engine, it will be more reliable and better for daily driving than a built ls/vtec. I would go with the ITR engine if it were up to me

LS/Vtec all the way! Although I heard of crappy builders and engine didn't last longer than 2 months. but if built well and of course maintained well, then no question...For daily driver, no problems, I'd go for Type R, but for 5K, That just a stock Type R motor and don't forget the add-ons like new waterpump, oil pump, timing belt etc...it'll add up.

Custom turbo with a Zdyne gold, 3" exhaust and downpipe, better rods and pistons and maybe P & P the head a little. That would be money well spent and maybe not even break $5000 depending on the things you want to get for it.

i think that you need to stay on the LS VTEC route. my friend Carlos is running a 91 SI, full interior and street tires, with a C5 bottom end and a B16 head. the bottom end is stock, in the head he has skunk2 (old) cams and valvetrain, ITR intake manifold, and a GSR header. with no port work, he only ran a 14.7

my friend anthony just finished his LS VTEC, he is using shot peened LS rods, B16 pistons and JE rings. he spent about $400 getting all of his rotational assembly balanced. i think his compression ratio is about 11 to 1 with a stock head gasket.

you still need to buy a head, that should set you back about $500 realistically. i would run the new skunk2 (stage 3's?) jun imitation cams and cam gears with portflow inner valve springs and ITR outers, skunk titanium retainers, with some Ferrea valves and guides. i can imagine spending about $2500 so far.

you definitely need to run a B16 trans and an LSD. i was considering the Phantom Grip spider gear thing because it is rather cheap, but i hear stock honda cable trans LSD's are not too much more.

you already have a good deal of stuff. you have the block, mounts, shift linkage, axles. i would say you have a good start. make sure if you are having the work done that they SHARPEN YOUR RUNNERS. this is where the intake ports split to go to each valve and where the exhaust ports meet from the combustion chamber leading back to the header. by knife edging these ports and balancing the bottom end, anthony's motor is incredibly responsive. with mostly stock components and CTR cams, he pulled 30 cars on a GTP from a 4th gear 80mph roll on. honda's aren't supposed to have power in 4th gear! his does.

if your going to try and go as fast as poss go turbo, if you want to stay n/a you can't beat the ls/vtec setup although i would recomend getting a set of lightweight rods.

you can beat the ls vtec w/ a crvtec. jake, reinforce your bottom end and turbo i'll get your parts for cheap. ie 450cc injectors for $40 for all 4 5 grand is a lot might as well smoke the NA w/ a fi

Hey Jake,
is that installed in your car?
I just finished a setup like that.. on a customers car. But we used Arias pistons instead. Our head and block build up that is similar to that is only around $4200
and that includes the head and block. no core charge.
head will include stainless steel valves, port/polish as well as retainers and valve springs.

Email me if you have questions or comments.

try importbuilders.com ...they might have a better price than that, and all their engines seem to build to ****...

$5 grand for what, 200 whp? That's just silly. If I told a V8 guy about that he would laugh in my face. Heck, if I told any turbo guy on this site he would laugh. Go turbo, get more power, and save your money for other things

yeah but 200hp to the wheels...all motor, is pretty dam impressive for a 1.6L-1.8L, and with that much powre to the ground you will be in the low 13's for sure...where as the v8 guys will be in the low 15's high 14's stock with 200 hp in a v8...

C5_ALLMOTOR, good point, but that comes from being a college freshman...
For that kinda performance $5 grand is way too much considering how easy that is to get it with FI or on other cars. Also, how much of that $5 grand is labor? Jesus it doesn't seem like that's even $2500 worth of parts.
