Default JDM R with Major problems #####HELP#####

hey few things to start my question

97 jdm teg type r in 94 civic hatch

-stage 2 cams.. rocket m22x cams
w adjustable pullies

ok i didnt instal this stuff myself i got the car last jan 06 have had no problems at all untill october when my master clutch and slave cylinders were replaced and 2 weeks ago i changed out the rotor in the distributor because it was busted---at this same time the timingbelt was tightend by alternative motors in okc

---PROBLEM now---
i was driving down the road and put it in 3rd @ 55 to pass a car on the highway and half way passed the guy my engine made this wierd noise and i lost ALL power and it sounded like the motor wasnt breathing aT all well i pulled over and tryed to start it again and again to listen to the noise...when i popped the hood it i seen that one of the cams pullys the one w the distributor on the other end was out from the motor about a 1/4 inch from the other one....i was told buy a shop guy the head will have to come off to check the valves.

##---MY QUESTION--##
i dont have alot of money right now i actually have both of my cars in the shop broke and i am also going thru a divorce so i am looking for the most effective and cheap way to get thru this ...my car is 10miles from my home so its hard to get a ride to look at it myself.. i dont want to get ripped off and i also want to coach or help this mechanic work on my car cuz there is no professional shops to take it to just this reg foreign car mechanic, by the way i live in rolla missouri now 110mifrom st louis and 110 to springfield.

i need to know if i could do anything myself or what you think the cost should be and where what info do i need to help this dood fix mycar w out making it **** and costing me more money

You should post this in the hybrid forum. Our cars came with ITR motors.

BUT, if you have the tools and the know how you can pull the head and diagnose the damage yourself.

piston to valve contact
damaged combustion chamber

and if your car looked like a space shuttle taking off when you lost power then you have cracked sleeves too

regardless, the word "cheap" will not be in your vocabulary in this particular situation

Get out of using and driving modded cars.

Sell both and get a stock civic.

Keep it at that until the rest of your life improves

Ha, you need a new mechanic. Say it is the cam itself that broke... do you not think there would be other serious damage? Seriously, this is not going to be an 80 dollar fix. Sorry.

Seems as if the cam gear bolt was over tourqed which might have cracked the threads/cam. It held up for a bit and now it gave up... Just my thought

Well lets say that the cam breaking was the worse thing thats happened and caused your motor to shut off.

If you are broke, then you can PRAY that the valves aren't bent, and if they are, that they are not badly bent. Putting a new cam in and getting everything at TDC, the engine would prolly run pretty well assuming the valves aren't in too bad of condition. Youll probably wanna buy a new timing belt though and thats like $120 plus, and a rocket m22 cam is going to be like $200 for one, but I doubt you can buy just the intake cam so your looking like $400 for new cams.

Hense IF YOU DON"T have horribly messed up valves, and no block damage your looking $500+ for this.

Word of wisdom, when a engine suddenly shuts off....NEVER try and start it back up until youve looked at some things.

I advise you park the car until you have some money, rebuild the head yourself. If you pay someone to repair it correctly your going to spend about $1400 for labor and parts.... if you go to a dealership it could be $2000

Not to be rude, but could you possibly type a word out completely instead of all the ebonics crap? It's quite irritating.

Answer this: How can your mechanic make a proper evaluation with out performing at least a leak down test, a compression test, and looking into the cylinders? He can't, because in order to perform the first two tests, you need to have intact and proper working cams to make the valves seat in order for the motor to hold any kind of compression.

If he charged you money for this evaluation, ask for it back. Get new cams in there...any cams right now, then do a proper diagnosis and none of this bullshit monkey business.

Hybrid Forum FTW.
