Default super hard to get into gear????

searched but could find anything with the same problem

ok so i just swaped my b16 into my hatch, and replaced tranny fluid, the car goes into reverse and 4th easily but to get into anyother gear i have to force it, even with the clutch all the way in

note:when i was putting it in i bent the shift linkage where it bolts to the chassis a little but i did bend it back and i dont think that is the problem

any help would be awesome, i really dont wanna take it to a shop

Did you use Honda MTF fluid or aftermarket fluid?

Some of aftermarket fluids cause problems with Honda synchros. Place that did my clutch put some Redline fluid in, my S21 started grinding & balking after a couple thousand miles, switched back to Honda MTF, and the problems went away.

the tranny fluid for the Honda is the engine fluid SEA 10W-40, API SJ...or the HTF in Honda store...
EMIDIATELY go and switch the oil from tranny!

& prey to God that you didn't fry the gears!!

might be the linkage, friend had a bent linkage and it would pop out of gears and not go in so good. when i did my tranny i tightened my shift linkage really tight on the shifter and it made it very difficult to get into gear, so i loosened it and it went in smooth. try some of those if that helps

It depends on what year you have.

Newer Hondas only recommend Honda MTF. 10w30/10w40 can be used in a pinch but causes accelerated synchro wear, so it's recommended to only use that if MTF isn't available, and to switch back to MTF ASAP.

Older Hondas trans can (should?) use 10w30/10w40.

But MTF has been around for quite a while now, and Honda recommended using MTF as soon as it was released for all new cars. As for when MTF was released, you've got me. By 96-97 Honda MTF was in full effect.

then you need to change the synchos...the problem you have is that the 1st shaft cannot be synchonised, so the fork cannot put you in the gear...

or if you cannot put in 1st & 3rd, the fork might be bended from fast shifting...so you need to open the gear box & replace the fork!!

p.s. sorry for bad english...
p.p.s. try to put in 2nd, then in 1st...

When I replaced my motor (B16) I used 10w 30 and it was hard at first then i checked to see if i had enough but i did not so i put another pint in and it was good in a few days. but mine would always go into gear it was just not as smooth but now it is good
