Default Automatic shift problems

1994 Automatic accord EX shifts really jackedup. I tried the search but it really didnt touch base with what i am looking to find, What i was looking to find out is if there is a way to reprogram or train the shift points? its like it cant decide what gear it wants to be in. I heard that you may be able to do something like put the key on "on" and floor it for 30 seconds and then turn key to off and then start the car and retrain the tranny to your driving? I dont know if this is true please let me know if youve heard of this thanks.

I've never heard of training your tranmission like that, your ECU controls your shift points.

What exactly is your tranmission doing?

your car might be a little too old for the ecu to learn driver style. some 95+ cars are actually able to be trained. its called adaptive learning. im not sure about honda specificly, however i do know from personal experience that chrysler has it.

in your case, it might not be a bad idea to disconnect your negative cable for 10 minutes, and see what happens then after you connect everything back up.

Thanks, I will give that a try. As for what the tranny is doing...it just seems like it cant decide what gear to be in. The tranny was replaced a few years ago with a used one. ever since it has acted up. If you are going up a hill it will shift down and pull really hard and then shift up a few seconds later and do that a few times, it also shifts pretty hard and feels like it slips a little just becouse it tachs up when it downshifts. It is mainly just a problem in downshifts. If anyone has anymore info please let me know

you could also have a problem with the fluid pressures in the trans; more importantly the valve body. if we rule out the computer as the culprit, it seems to me that the individual check ***** that control the shift valves may either be sticking and/or there are diposits blocking the passages in there. a simple lint fuzzy is enough sometimes to throw off that valving.

Ok, I am going to try the ground right now and maybe clean it up a bit if there is any corrossion. I will have to read in the haynes to see about these valve body and such. I am more of a manual tranny vw guy so not to familiar with this car. I will let ya know what happens after the ground fix up.

Did anyone ever check after the swap to be sure the pressure lever cable is adjusted correctly?

Is this cable visable from under the hood? becouse there is a cable that is near the throttle cable that is loose. could that be it? any instructions on how much to tighten it and where it should be?

higher milage accords are KNOWN for their very hard shifting, slow shifting.

first thing I would do is a drain and fill 3 times (drive about 5 miles inbetween each drain and fill) with new HONDA fluid and with the last drain and fill use a can of lubeguard for imports.

Also when the car is cold, ecu will delay shifting until a higher rpm to aide in engine warmup. i know for sure that any accord older than 03 does not adapt to driving style. Not sure about the 03 and newer ones.

Guess I should check into this as well, it does the same thing (downshifting hard up a hill, then upshifting) in my mom's 94 EX... Car has all original motor, trans, ecu and only has 57xxx miles on it.

Yup, we are in the same boat. Just hope someone knows how to correct this pressure lever cable. I really think that could be the problem in my case becouse of the tranny swap, and having it done by someone not familiar with hondas.

My transmission does the same thing, I highly doubt its a cable. Its that your transmission is older and its on its way out, mine downshifts when your going up a hill, slips and shoots up the rpms, than goes into gear. Almost all honda automatic's with 100,000 miles+ does this. Accords anyways. I have a 97. Swap a manual.
