Default rod knock? vid w/ sound...

i bought this 93 about 3 weeks ago. had a little clatter but i didn't think it was a big deal. about a week ago, i went out to warm up my car and heard a knocking with it idling. is this rod knock??

i'm sort of freaking out, because i was planning a road trip up to canada in about 2 weeks, which is a 2000 mile round trip in THIS car and now i'm worried it won't make it. i've searched around on here, and a lot of people have said they're motor's have blown up with rod knock after just a few hundred miles, babying it the entire way.

if this IS rod knock... i'll probably run it into the ground and replace the motor when it'll no longer run at all, but I won't have time to do that before my trip. will it make it?? what do you all think??

It kinda sounds like you need a valve adjustment, to me anyway. My old friends car had rod knock, and it was alot more defined than that. I would rip it done and figure out if its valves or what not

i've never torn apart a motor, nor have i adjusted valves.
any info?

bought this car as something to learn from... being a beginner mechanic, would i be able to adjust the valves myself? specific tools needed?

Youre just going to be removing the valve cover, timing cover, and spark plugs.
You'll turn the crank, rotating the engine, and use a feeler gauge to adjust tolerances.

No, the pictures dont work. I suggest you buy a GOOD manual for your car.
If you bought the car to learn, a quality manual is pretty much required.

i also found this one for you

search more on your own and you will uncover a lot more

So I have a similar situation as above, my car has a knock that's only apparent at lower RPM's. I bought this car about 2 weeks ago (1996 Honda Civic HX Coupe - VTEC-E D16Y5) for something to get good gas mileage in. Mine sounds similar to the video mentioned above but I'd like to hear from you guys, here's the link (no video, just sound... took it from about 5 inches above the engine)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43HrtTcKnUw

It sounded a lot like it was coming out of the top end of the engine (valve issue? rocker arm?) but I took it to Firestone for brake work and a guy said he thinks it's coming from the lower end of the engine (rod bearing? etc) so I'm really not sure what to think. Another mechanic also said "hey, it's got 150K on it already, chances are this noise started a long time ago and it'll probably go another 100K". I hate to agree with this logic but my 1992 Jeep Cherokee had similar sounds and got 230K easily.

It definitely doesn't sound like this guys problem which was a rod issue (see below link). His knock is super loud/harsh where mine is more of a ticking (my mic was super close to the engine, that's why it might sound louder than reality.... imagine putting your ear 5 inches from the top of the engine block)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu4V7No4i3E

Let me know what you guys think. The only history I know about the car is that the guy had them do a general tune-up before selling to me (valves, cleaned EGR valve, etc.) and also replaced the battery, radiator, and the timing belt. I thought it could be the timing belt but I figured it would make more problems happen that this if it were off.... of course I could be wrong.

I'm not really used to this engine yet, but have noticed that once it's warm, it'll idle at ~ 200 rpm when in neutral (no A/C or radio load, only car idling) which seems super low to me. There's a tick mark just above the 0 RPM indication and it rests at this mark. Don't know if that mark is a bear minimum RPM mark or "normal" RPM idling mark.

PLEASE HELP - Sorry for the long post.
