Default Alternator

I have a system in my car. And aftermarket lights and such hooked up on my car. And i can't help but notice my lights are really dim when sitting. but the second i hit the gas they get bright. And when i apply the brakes. They seem to almost go out. If i put a higher amp alternator on my car would that help this problem? And get rid of the lights dimming and such? Cuz it is really annoying me, im picky about that stuff.

first off load test your system to make sure that it is the alt and not a bad battery drawing down your load at idle.

what exactly do you have installed in your car?

put in a 1 farad cap to help feed your amp and load test the system before and after....any time you are sucking major wattage you need a cap to help with the energy drain......most likely need a higher capacity alt. try using one from the 4cyl oddessy

I was planning on buying a cap. And does it really matter what kind? Like company or quality? And do u suggest trying to find an alternator off an odyessey? or could i just buy a higher output one from somewhere else?

A cap wont [in theory] help much with the voltages, as it needs to be changed by an already potentially weak alternator, your best bet is a new HO [high Output] alt and upgraded wiring.

I did that and it helped me tons

true. but i doubt he has a 1000 wrms amp, its probably 500ish and doesn't need a new alternator. a cap will be enough for his headlights to stop dimming. i have 850 wrms and a 1 farad cap and have almost no dimming even sitting still with the air on.
