Default OBD Q's?

I picked up a 95 eg6 SI and getting a motor soon from HMO. The motor will be a USDM gSR or maybe LS.What OBD will come with either of my choices and what are the benefits of the different OBD' such as tuning and smog?

depends on what years you look for. 96-up is generally OBD-2, 92-95 is OBD-1, under that is OBD-0. smog would probably be easier with OBD-2. OBD-1 seems to be the preferred system when it comes to tuning.

I guess its gonna come down to what HMO gives me unless I can make requests. So just for tuning reasons OBD 1 is generally favorable...right?

gsr and ls both come in obd1 and obd2

HMO should allow you to choose what obd you want.

some say obd2 is harder to wire in order to be smog compliant. obd1 is peoples preferred method for tuning. if you have an obd1 car and get an obd2 engine and want to be smog compliant you have to wire the whole engine as obd2 car would be wired. just get an obd1. i'm sure HMO had more obd1 engine than obd2.

just tell HMO your looking for an obd1 engine and ask them what year it is. whos gonna install it?

So being a 95 your car is OBDI. For CA smog you need to run what ever the motor is. So if it is a 95 you are good to go, but if it is a 96 you will have to go OBDII.

Also you cannot go with a 94 motor. The motor has to be the same year or newer than the car.

If you are going to go the Acura motor you will need to get it BAR'ed by the state.
You can do the search thing for more info on the BAR/referee process.

When I got my JDM GSR from HMO for my 95 DX, they offered me the choice to get an OBD1 or 2 motor, but said that I should get an OBD1. It was what I was planning on getting anyway, but my point is, they offered me the choice.

Those guys at HMO are pretty sharp and good to work with.
