Default engines- how to distinguish obd 1 from obd 2

im looking for a new longblock, jdm sir II b16a to be exact. i live in cali and smog is wack here. i heard if the motor is obd 2, you have to keep it obd 2. currently im running on obd1. when i buy my new longblock, within the next 2 weeks, how would i tell which one is obd1 and obd2? they say 1992-95 jdm b16a are obd1, but i think i saw somewhere they had a 95 obd 2

if anyone can help me out, that would be great!

never heard of an obd2 95 motor, but i could be wrong. at any rate, all you have to do is switch the dizzy and the ECU for the obd1 counterparts, and you should be good to go, obd1

There would be a wire coming from right near the crank pulley if it is OBD2

wrong. i know of a person passing off OBD2 JDM GSR motor as a 95. he swapped out the dizzy, altenator, and injectors, ran his stock harness, and 95 usdm intakemani and exhaust mani, usdm p72. he had no troubles getting a BAR stickers. keep in mind, JDM motors dont have VIN #'s on them (that indicate model year), and ref's dont know how to read head stamps (year that the head was cast)

I think 92-95 JDM B16A were all OBD-1, and it was from 96+ that became OBD-2.

if it's obd-1, look for 1 o2 sensor. if it's obd-2, look for 2.
