ENGINE SWAP: OBD1 VS OBD 2
I have a 99 civic dx hatchback OBD 2 and I am getting a engine swap. I am looking to get a b18C and build it up for turbo. My question is....to run a smog legal emissions setup, is it possible to swap in a obd1 engine and still be legal or is it a must that I get the OBD 2 b18c. What does a obd1 to obd2 harnesses good for??? If the obd 1 engine is possible to pass smog and no CEL then how complicated (how much headache) would it be to install a obd1 engine into my obd2 equipped car????
Dependson the location possibly. Where I am from you cannot put an older version of OBD into a car that requires a newer version unless you get Hot Rod status.
To use the OBD1 motor you would need at least a wiring harness for the ECU ODB conversion. IMO lots of trouble. Why not buy OBD2 motor?

if you keep all of the wiring(distributor, harness, ecu) obd2 and the motor is obd1, you'll be fine. and later on, you can always convert it to obd1 by getting an obd1 jumper and obd1 ecu. you should be fine.
