Unusual TPS problem
Ok so I've had this problem for awhile now but recently it's gotten alot worse. The symptoms are when I'm driving, engine will jerk in any gear when i'm giving it no throttle to about half throttle, and the tach shows fast jerks up and down too when the engine's misfiring. Now about every 5th time I start the car up and only on start up, the CEL will come on and give me code 7 (tps) then all my problems go away, it doesn't jerk anymore and is completly smooth to drive. Also, my spark plugs are running richer than Bill Gates. i've set the tps time and time again from .45-.50V on idle and nothing makes a difference, so I'm not sure why it's giving me a CEL when I'm getting a good reading from the tps. Any help is appreciated!
Have you messed with, accidentally bumped or made funny faces at the throttle stop screw? That little thing is so sensative, which will lead to other problems...
What about vacuum leaks, idle adjustment, IACV fouled up, dirty throttle body?

I haven't made any faces at the throttle's idle screw, but I've never screwed with it b4 since I did my engine swap. I don't knoe if that would through me a tps code. Don't have any vacuum leaks, IACV was cleaned a couple months ago, throttle body was cleaned a couple months ago also. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the tps, just don't know what the problem with it is.
Well, it is definitely an intermittent problem meaning your on borrowed time. You can either 1) Drill off the rivets that hold it on and replace with unit from a junk yard...maybe. 2) Buy new or used throttle body.
I have never heard of a junk yard letting anyone drill off the TPS.

I replaced it last year when I did my engine swap. I've taken it off a couple times and it appears just fine to me, and gives correct voltage from idle all the way to WOT.

don't drill... cut a notch into it and unscrew it.
I just bought the whole throttle body when i did it and it was still fairly cheap.
but I just dremeled a notch in the rivit unscrewed it (yes it is a screw not a rivit) bought some hex screws that fit and put the new one on. then just adjust it properly and you should have the problem fixed.

God doesnt love ugly god loves you.
I have had similar problems lately. I found that my tranny was a lil messed up for one but another to check would be the cable if you have one i forget the name but it goes from throttle body to tranny, On my car anywas. Then next Your vacuums.

This doesn't really apply cause I've already said that I've cut notches in it and gotten it out... That was about a year ago and the same notches are still there so I don't have to do it again.

The cable u are speaking of is for automatic transmissions only buddy, I got a manual tranmission, so that doesn't apply. Thanks for the help so far ppl keep em coming it's just frustrating haveing ppl post things that aren't relavent at all... It's like someone trying to ask why their car doesn't start and somone replying saying that maybe their floor mat is the wrong color... something totally irrelevant.

K made a breaking discovery today. My car runs perfect with the tps unplugged. I didn't expect it to, but for some reason with it unplugged it revs up and down perfectly and idles perfectly which hasn't happened for a long time. Anyone wanna explain why this would happen? Cause the tps is giving the ecu good readings, .5V at idle and 4.5V at WOT and good everywhere inbetween. Thanks for the help so far.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!! my car jerks when i let off the throttle and then my CEL comes on its horrible and its been happening every time just on the freeway or in town but i dont have any problems when idling. should i get a new TPS or just unplug it?
Yeah. It's just that we're putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports *before* they go out now. So if you could just remember to do that from now on, that'd be great. All right!
