Default Tuning problem on turbo b16a2. HELP!@!!

Its a b16a2 with 9:1 je pistons, eagle rods, acl bearings, arp studs, rev valvetrain and gsr cams ( supposively). the turbo is a 50 trim with a 50a/r cold and 48 a/r hot.
For some reason when the car reaches the vtec engagement point the car loses power instead of gaining. The timing is perfect. Now my question is will this happen if you use non vtec cams on a vtec motor???? Im really concerned i bought the cams for 30 bux off of ebay. EMS= Crome pro
thanks

im not the tuner. if i was i would. My tuner told me that turbo b16 like to have vtec engaged around 4800rpm and my car doesnt want it till like 7000 rpm. There was other tuners at the dyno the same day and they all are stumped. at first we thought it was the timing but we made sure the timing was 100% perfect.

post this in the fi forum...but this sounds like a tuning issue. vtec engages when you tell it to not when it wants to.

i understand they tell it to engage at 4800 and as soon as vtec engages it loses like 30 whp and then starts to come up again. My tuner tuned another turbo b16 right before mine with the same turbo and he made 280whp at 10 psi.

Sounds like vtec engagement is set too low. If its "picking back up" at higher rpms, then you should raise vtec engagement so its more fluid. Let me guess, at 4800rpm it bogs HARD right?

You're not running non-vtec cams. If you were there would be no change between the non-vtec portion & vtec portion. Just incase someone wants to call bullshit on that: If you don't have VTEC cams then the cam lobe profile won't change at all so there would be no loss/gain in power via the cam.

How much boost are you making around 4800rpm & what is the max boost you're going to run? Does boost drop off at all when vtec engages?

at 9 pounds of boost the car made at 4800rpm like 150whp then droped to like 120whp and then slowly went up to 172whp at 8200rpm. boost does not drop off when vtec is engaged. The most im going to boost on this turbo will probably be around 20psi it depends on what the tuner feels is safe.

Did you ever tune the car before putting the turbo on? The big problem with using 'unknown' cams on a fresh build is that you don't really have a base to go from. And it it was something like the cams, you wouldn't be able to pinpoint it easily. Also, who built your motor? Did you ever do a compression test/leak down test just in case?

i broke in the motor on stock cams. I put the turbo kit with my stock cams and blew the oil pump. when i changed the oil pump i put my gsr cams in place of the b16's. the motor was built by me and a repuitable builder here in miami. I still have not done a leak down but the compression is at 155 across the engine.
