Before anyone flames, my search isnt working and wont complete it
1) Will any d series tranny work on my 92 si? If I use a tranny from a ek will I have any CEL?
2) Ive seen many people with egs that have "black housing" headlights, is there a write up on these?
TIA

I checked the archive, but only found a DIY for ek headlights.
How do I put a cable tranny on a car thats meant for a hydro? is there a conversion kit? Is there anyone who has the max speeds of the stock transmission for d series? I currently have a 92si with a vx tranny
. Car goes away in July, just looking for a better DD tranny.
Thanks again

The FAQ for black ek headlight housing is there - but all the picture links are broken. Admins don't keep the FAQ section too clean

If you search google or http://www.clubcivic.com or the works I'm sure you can find the DIY for the black EK housing w/ pictures.
If it helps any here's the link to the FAQ on H-T. Though like I said, the links to the pictures are broken.

There is one person that's done a hydro to cable conversion that I know of. Only reason he did it was because money was tight and he only had a cable tranny. At the end of '91 they stopped putting cable trannies in civics (as far as D/B series motors go). All 5th gen (92-95) civics have hydro trans.
I don't know all the specs about this. There's a kit someplace that people sell to use a cable tranny with a hydro system. Cable to Hydro conversion. I haven't really looked into it and really don't know anything about it, so I can't really help ya there.
D-series trannies are different, though you must use a D-series hydro tranny for practical purposes.
If you want the best daily driver, your best bet is the EX/Si tranny (P28) which has the shortest gear box of the D-series motors - though it's really not all that short if you look at some of the other ones. 5th gear is a little high, that's my only complaint about it.
the EX/Si (D16Z6) gear ratios are as follows:
1st = 3.25 (36.36MPH redline, 7200 RPM)
2nd = 1.9 (62.2MPH redline, 7200 RPM)
3rd = 1.25 (94.55MPH redline, 7200 RPM)
4th = .909 (130.02MPH redline, 7200 RPM)
5th = .702 (168.35MPH redline, 7200 RPM)
Final Drive = 4.25
Your VX gear ratios are as follows:
I'm assuming the redline of the D15Z1 (VX) is 6,500, because I'm not positive.
1st = 3.25 (42.93MPH redline, 6500 RPM)
2nd = 1.761 (79.23MPH redline, 6500 RPM)
3rd = 1.066 (130.89MPH redline, 6500 RPM)
4th = .853 (163.57MPH redline, 6500 RPM)
5th = .702 (198.75MPH redline, 6500 RPM)
Final Drive = 3.25
If you're using the VX tranny on your SI motor like you are, the gear ratios are the same as the ones listed above for the VX tranny, but your max's are as follows:
1st = 47.55MPH (7200 RPM)
2nd = 87.76MPH (7200 RPM)
3rd = 144.98MPH (7200 RPM)
4th = 181.18MPH (7200 RPM)
5th = 220.16MPH (7200 RPM)
Hope that helps

I found the ek headlight FAQ, Im looking for an eg headlight diy
Thanks for the gearing on the transmissions
Before I had to put the VX tranny in, I had an ex tranny and I loved it. Then it exploded
TIA

Try there too. I know on the EK's you bake the headlight until the silicone holding the two pieces together is molten. Then you take it apart, prep and paint the color of your desire. Im sure it's similar for the eg civic. But it is glass, you may bake it or it may just be some screws you have to take off. Either way The glass comes off somehow or another and you can paint the inside. Dupont black paint is recommended for this application. It can be found at your local hobby shop or walmart.
