Update on my running 16's in my I/H/E GSR, and some other funny things
Well my ASE certified friend told me what was wrong with it and I printed it all out on a sheet of paper, also I told them of my plans to go through with the lemon law.
So I pick up the car and..
- Valve ticking is gone....all gone..they have had my car for a least 3 visits and they couldn't get ride of it.
- Timing was retarded 10 degrees on the distributor
So I'm going to go to the track tomorrow to see if I can pull better times than 16's. I know 10 degrees is alot. Now my silly question to give me confidence is....do you thnink my timing being retarded was the cause of my running 16's all night.
Once again my best time of the night on a red light was 16.0 w/ a 2.5 60 @ 88mph.
Now for the other funny things, we were installing my buddies Skunk 2 mani/cam gears/ itr cai/ and some other things. Actually most of us were watching the install. This is his first honda, he traded in his vr4 and got a 2k gsr w/ for about 18k. He didn't know what was going on.
It was hillarious when our friend was throwing his stock cam gears and intake manifold on the ground. His mouth just dropped. He didn't even want to touch the car. They told him things like.."oh this isn't going to work sorry" he would get so upset.
Also, our friend says "I wonder if there's fuel in the fuel rail, *takes a lighter to it* yup there is *a little flame started on the end of the fuel rail*. Dangerous, I know.
I told him he's going to bog w/ that 2k mani and no cams or vafc but he's going to run at the track against me, barring that my mom lets me, she was rather unhappy when I came home with #'s on my car b/c I had just gotten it fixed.
So I'm hoping with my timing fixed I can run better times...think the 10 degrees retared on the distributer problem fixed will help ??

no I was at fomoso, My question was my timing on the distributor was off 10. I was retarded 10 degrees. Would that cause me to be running 16's all night long ???
I have been running 16's as well. I occasionally dipped into the 15's (15.7 / 15.8) @ 88mph. I had an AEM short ram on at the time and that's it for aftermarket parts. Since then I swapped out the short ram for a CAI. My first test was on a very humid night at the strip. I knew my car wasn't going to perform at its peak level due to the atmospheric conditions. Bottom line:
Work on your 60ft times and you will see your 1/4 mile times drop to a more respectable time with the mods you have on.

take out your front passenger seat, rear seats, spare tire, and all unecessary items that are just weighing down your car. Practice launching at 4k-45k...cause launch is everything so master it! Also lower the compression on your tires so you have better traction. For sure a stock gsr with bolt ons should be in low 15's, even high 14's with the right driver. Good luck!

Have friends that know what they are doing to work on your cars. I do all the work on my own car and customers cars. If i saw anyone drop an intake manifold or try lighting the fuel in my fuel rail i would seriously kick his ***.
Getting the ticking to go away on a valve adjustment is easy if done right. Find someone else to work on your car. Anyone that works on cars would know that your timing is retarted to much especially if its at 10 degrees. They dont even need a light for that.
Do all the labor yourself. Buy a helms manual, or a Haynes if you plan on only doing little stuff, and learn about your car. Then when choosing mods, choose parts that have been proven. I.E. skunk2 manifold, mugen chipped p-28, VAFC tuned, ITR or TODA or JUN cams, JDM DC 4-1 or JDM ITR 4-1. You get the idea. Also practice your launch and you should run mid 15's. Good luck.
Depending on your wheels weight, that could be slowing you down also. But like i said, get someone to work on your car that knows what they are doing, or do it yourself.

2.5 sec 60 ft time? That's horrible. I don't think it's entirely the state of the car.
Work on the launch. Getting a 2.2 sec will roughly knock 0.5 secs off your time.

but yea to answer your question, the retarding timing will play a significant role in your high times

timing would definitely make a difference. even though you have 16s... im sure you can still break into the 15s now that youre valves are adjusted and the timing is corrected.
