Default clearing your headlights gone wrong.

the right side came out perfect.

however the left. looks like this.

i don't know how this happened. both lights were sealed and submerged in water for testing. all i know is its f'ed up. i took the bulbs out and tried to wipe the inside. but this is not moisture. this is a change in the plastic itself. if u look close u can see marks from my wipes. i got some PlastX and buffed out the corner. you can notice areas on the corner are still fogged. but it came back soon enough. maybe the weather stripping adhesive and moisture together changed the plastic. no clue. the car was not driven. it sat over night.

so my left light is f'ed up. o well. i'm going to reopen it again, and use some rubbing compound to buff it out. if it dont fix. i guess time to hit up hondaautomotiveparts.com

I dont know why you guys use ovens to open headlights.. A heatgun is the safest and easiest way. Takes 5 min to pull it apart.

i dunno where u got oven from.

i didnt use any heat. i just pry'd it open with this chipper thing, looks like a really wide screw driver and a razor blade to cut the adhesive when prying. took about 10-15 minutes slowing going around and prying every other inch or so.

I have never heard of doing it that way.. But I have opened over 10 sets of 8th Civic headlights and have never had that problem.

Why did you submerge the headlight in water? There is no need for that.. That is the cause of your foggy headlight. Heat the inside with a hairdryer.

i jus wanted to show what can happen.

but...

it isn't moisture, i've tried to wipe it with a screw driver and rag. it doesnt do a thing to it, just **** me off. knowing that wiping it doesn't make it go away, i'm not going to add heat to it with a hairdryer. my buddy who was there when i did it, tried to convince me its the weather strip adhesive i used reacting to moisture or the weather. it was in the 40s when i did it. i don't know what it is.

o well. just a warning. this also isn't my first set, i did a set before with my buddy, no issues. we used the oven method for his though. this set i didn't have a oven or heat gun. the heat made it 10x easier to pry open. my way kind of f'ed up the plastic.

i don't mean to be rude but i find it funny that you actually submerged your headlights lol... I can see the logic, but that is just going above and beyond the extra

looks like you may have to wet sand that ****

That's wierd, It looks like fog, but you say its not. Is it possible something got in there that heated up with the lights and baked the plastic? They say theres a reason the area needs to be thoroughly wiped clean before being resealed.

Are you sure that's not moisture? It looks exactly how my lenses did when only like 2 drops of water snuck their way in.

Hey just a thought....you didnt use any kind of soap on the inside of it did you. Need to use ammonia free glass cleaner on the inside. Soap will dry to the lense and then will bake on when heated up. just a thought i had.

Looks more like a reaction from the vapor of some kind of glue used to seal it.

i waited a hour or so. no exact time i was doing 40oz curls during the whole process.

but i did it today again, and used a screw driver with a rag to try and wipe at it, using a good amount of pressure and it doesn't even budge....

so this week i'll open her back up and get to buffing and/or wet sanding. i'll post pix after.
