I have a 95 honda civic del sol si vtec dohc engine.

Timing belt snapped. I am taking the approach of putting a new one on and seeing if it starts before I assume the valves are bent.

Cam is in correct position. How do I know where to position crankshaft and how do I turn it?

And is the vtech dohc a b or d engine? I see people posting about b14 and d17 and whatnot.

 

why not take it about to check if you have bent valves. that was you dont run the risk of turning it and causing more damage

 

just put a wrench on the crank pulley and turn it till its on the TDC mark, and then put your new timing belt on and see what happens

 

B16a3 in your 95 del sol vtec

The crank pulley has markings on it, that you can align with the oil pump, indicating TDC. the timing belt cover has similar markings (but you cant use them...being the cover will be off, when you do this)
Crank bolt size is 19mm

I really would pull the head though...
I had a skipped belt recently, bent 4 valves faster than I could shut the car off.

 

but more than likely if u were driving and it snapped, your motor is done

 

At least run a leak down, that will tell you if you have bent valves, without pulling the head. The tool to do that should cost maybe $20 from the parts store, and use someones air compressor.

 

I see a set of 2 notches and a set of 3 notches on the crank pulley. What do I align these up to?

 

The crank timing belt gear has a mark on it as does the oil pump

line those 2 up

 

I also had this same problem with my b16. I haven't changed the belt yet but I'm bout to.
Once aligning the car to TDC and have the came pointing upright like they should. I check the timing the the white line is not where it should be.

I just rotate the distributor a little in order to line it up correct??

My belt didn't snap or anything but my distributor bearings went bad. After I replaced the dizzy my car wouldn't start. Thats when I noticed my timing was off. So I got everything lined up started to car and now it sounds a lil funny. Like there is something loose on the engine.
