Alright, so one day my friend says he wanted to race me and and didn't want to at first, but he kept annoying the expletive out of me, so I agreed. That's where it all went wrong. So I launch the car around 3500rpm, as usual and my tach stopped at 6800, bounced off and then went down to 7500rpms. WTF!!?? So I stop racing right away. The next day, I just drive normally and then boom, on comes both lights. I took it to Midas and they came up with 2 codes: VTEC Malfunction and EGR Valve. My intake manifold was clogged up they said, so they put fuel system cleaner in it and that helped it out. Couple hours later, I get off work and drive home normally and at the exact same stop as last time, my ******* lights come on again. Now I am due in for an oil change. Would seafoam clear up the EGR Valve and get rid of the carbon and **** like that?? Also, what can I do about the VTEC malfunction?? I am completely clueless on that, or does the EGR Valve cause the VTEC to malfunction?? Someone please PLEASE help me.

 

I don't know about the VTEC code. doesn't sound good.

If the EGR code is 401, you need to clean the EGR ports - don't even bother with the Valve until the ports are cleaned. honda extended the emmisions warrany to 150k miles for this and anything 97 up is certainly covered.

ATTS light comes on with the check engine and it will stop functioning.

 

and the seafoam and cleaners will help keep things clean in the future, but it's futile at this point. Like pissing on a bonfire to put it out

 

UPDATE:

I used got fuel system cleaner and I had the shop put it in the throttle body, fuel tank, upper and lower intake ports. Car is running beautifully, except VTEC stills bounces off at 6800 and then goes to 7500. Car was warmed up fully and has plenty of oil in it. I am also due in for an oil change. Would changing the oil help it big time and also, does cold weather really mess up the whole VTEC system?? I know VTEC is all about oil pressure. Would my car operate more better in spring time??
