Default Solution to Sloppy Shifter

In my Sedan my shifter has such much side to side play it is funny; I'm talking you can take out people's knees when you go over to fifth. After doing some research I found I need to replace the bushing in the shift linkage (54201-SH3-A04), and thank the lord the linkage is only 37.04 from the dealer. I figured I may just want to replace the whole Shifter assembly with something more precise and I came upon this B&M piece.

B&M Part Number 49074

A whole self contained unit that isn't marketed as a short shifter. I tested a unit like this for another car at PRI and really liked the feel, but is there really any practical benefit? Also, does this shorten throw or shorten the stick or a combination of both? I would like to keep the shift **** as close to stock height as possible.

Any ideas, comments, or concerns, feel free to leave em.

I have that b&m unit it makes the shifts buttery smooth since there is no plastic bushing only a spherical bearing , it is a short shifter and it is a bit shorter than the stock shifter, I plan On getting a shift extender so its a little higher than stock location, I would definitely recommend

Where do you pick up the shift extender?

I think healtoe has them. I have a skunk and I love mine. Just used all urathan bushings.

Any short shifter is fine, it does not have to be B&M. As long as you replace the bushings with some urathan you'll be fine. The name short shifter does not mean it is shorter then the stock one, it just shifts shorter. The bottom is longer then a factory shifter and can hit you exhaust pipe. But I love mine.........

Almost every short shifter you see on the market is an overpriced piece of metal that just changes the throw and drops the shifter into the nether regions of console. I want a precise unit that does away with the factory 17 year old hardware and the slope that comes from that. This B&M piece gave me the piece of mind that you get with RWD shifting when I tried it out.

BTW, heeltoe doesn't have a shift extender listed on their site.

since on subject of short shifters.... litte off topic BUT, i was looking on summit or some other site a while back, and i noticed they had one for like 53% shorter and like 70-something % shorter (if i remember correctly), my friend has an ebay short shifter, and its not even close to what i want. i would like something that is extremely short to get into gears. while containing stock height..... anybody know who has the shortest throw shifter?

a short shifter is a great mod in my opinion. it makes shifting so much easier. b&m makes a good one

I think your problem OP is not a bushing but rather the shifter as you already could tell. I have ES bushings and stock shifter with hasport linkage for a b16 swap and I can swing side to side while in gear. Please post your results though of a good shifter that is not too low, am interested.

Most do not like the b&m short shifters because their height is too low, makes shifting no fun. I had one in my 00 civic, did not like it one bit.

If you aren't concerned with the shortness of the shifter (cosmetic), check out the Fastline shifter (functional).

Here's a pic of one installed in a friend's CRX:

Good call on that BC. Also a lot of the play I've seen in stock shifters comes from the bitch pin (#8 above) being old or replaced with a bolt/nut, or from the linkage (#14) U-joint thing.

Did he have the shifter alone or the whole assembly that I have pictured?

If I ever remove my radio, I'll look into that That sort of removes the possibility of a female friend ever leaning over and...~cough~

I plan on replacing the Shift Linkage, the Bitch Pin, and if I go for the B&M I'm totally removing 6,7,8, and 12 from the equation.

Replace the shifter linkage bushings with polyurethane ones and you should be good to go (#16 and #18 in the diagram). They both come in a kit from Energy Suspension which costed me $20CDN. My shifter is very solid and feels brand new right now with no slopiness whatsoever.

I had a B&M w/ the polyurethane shift stabilizer kit. Great setup. I now have a FLP shifter using the same stabilizer kit and it owns all.

if you have the bitch pin in, and your replaced the bushing at the shifter. then the problem is most likely here. my hasport shiftlinkage lasted me 4 months before the bushing right there gave out. my other friend with a da is having the same problem with those bushing. go under car and see if theres play there
