all motor ls vtec vs. all motor b20 vtec
ok i have a 91 ls motor and i am going for the build i have nice stock block and i am trying to achieve right around 230hp give or take i am thinking right around 12.5:1 - 13:1 compression and i am using a worked gsr head ported and polished with a 3 angle valve job. i have a couple ?'s.
1. how much compression can i put on a stock sleeved block with pump gas vs. a sleeved ls block to a 2.0L?
2. which will be more reailable.
3. is the power i am going for achieveable?
4. and is it going to be worth y time to sleave my block to a 2.0 or should i go higher.
i am getting a set of custom Aries pistons so that is not going to be a problem.

1 and 2 would depend on the tune. 3 would would also depend on the tune and parts used. 4, well you'll have an easier time hitting your hp goal with more displacement.

These may or may not give you a hand in cam selection and piston selection (if you haven't chosen any yet) but are still a good read regardless.

You don't need compression that high to make that much power. 11.5 is all you really need. Contrary to popular belief, the power is in the head, not the block. Having a nicely worked GSR head is a great starting point. You'll definitely need at least an 84mm bore though. You're not going to get much higher than 2.0 unless you stroke it as well but the 87.2/89mm cranks are really ideal for drag racing as they produce peak power later in the curve.

yes that makes since i have now gottin a ls block whit oversize p30's and i am goin to put my head on that with omni power internals and skunk2 stage 2 pro series cams and tune the expletive out of it. hoping i will hit right around 200 to the wheels. anyone one have any comment to give to get there or improve that havent bought the head package yet so looking for some good input.

You need some headwork. headwork and header are the two most deciding factors on power output.

a good port job. cams are equally important as they compliment each other. You can get more out of whatever cams you choose with matching headwork and vice versa. Add a good header and you'll be amazed. You an probably gain 50-60whp from some good cams/header/headwork.
my head isnt completey stock but the things i did didnt do as much as i wanted. my head has s2s1 cams, valve springs, header, and intake. but with those mods it made it alittle bit faster but not as much as i was expecting. but after i put that built 2.0L LS block in i was happy.

The S2S1's are choking your 2.0. What header are you using?
