Default Does running the heater really help the motor run cooler?

If so, on average how much cooler??

I was told I should not remove my heater core system because I may need it after running the car hard. There are several reasons I want to remove it:

1) weight reduction

2) car will be a weekend warrior

3) won't be driven in $hitty weather when a defrost would be needed

4) make room for fuse box / battery (wire tuck)

5) one less thing I have to worry about breaking

The car is a 95 VX and is getting a K20 powerplant. Besides driving on the weekends I plan to drag and auto-x the car.

I would think it all boils down to the condition of the cooling system (if a motor is going to run hot / overheat).

Thanks for any help!!

People use the heater to reduce heat like in emergency situations. Such as an engine running hot and you can't get off the road. I've never heard of anyone running their heat on hot days to keep it cool, or to cool down after a hard run. Get a better performing radiator and or fans if your worried about heat and lose the heater core if you want.

Thanks guys, as I figured. Heater core / A/C componets will be yanked shortly.

Just think of the heater core as a mini radiator; all it is; is a heat exhanger.

it will only make it cooler if your radiator cant keep up. the thermostat will regulate the engine temp if it can

well see thats what seperates the wise men ( YOU ) from the dumb men ( ME ) lmfao i was using fire as one of the tools/method to extract the ac and heater core + dremels and just brute force aha .. most people do it the dashboard way i went in from the tiny glove box and got eveyrthing out haha the only thing you can use that is left after the carnage was the 2 harnesses for the Climate control to AC and the heatercore one the main one eveyrhting else is K.O.
