I just purchased a greddy turbo kit a few weeks ago, and I'm starting to purchase the "little" pieces to make sure I have everything handy when I do the install.

What spark plugs are you guys using with this particular turbo kit? Also what oil do you guys recommend?

call NGK and tell them what your set up is. they'll help you out in finding the sparks you need.

honda recommends 5w30 oil... if you live in a warmer climate it is OK to use 10w30 because its not as cold

Just talked to the NGK rep. He feels the BKR6E 6962 spark plugs would work great for my application. He said since I'm only boosting at 8 psi, and the car is a daily driver, that with such a low boost, using the BKR6E would be fine. He said going to a BKR7E might be a little too cold and if I was boosting at higher ranges, then definitely go with the BKR7E. He was very nice and helpful.

Also, he said the stock gap settings on the BKR6E is .036. He said Acura recommends .044 for the stock plugs, so the stock gap of .036 might be good enough. He also noted that to keep the gap range from .032 to .036.

For Iridiums, he suggested BKR6EIX.

I am currently running BKR7E in my boosted car making over 400+. I currently use castrol gtx 10w-40 I am thinking about trying to go synthetic with my new setup!

 

Oh wow, I thought synthetic oil was a requirement? lol I guess if you change out your oil quite often, you'll be fine.

Yeah I called NGK earlier today. But what's weird, there's another member here on HT that called NGK and said the BKR7E was the best spark plug to use on a turbo kit. I'm going to buy a set of the 6 and 7 series.

I've also read a few members like the BCPR7 spark plugs better than the V powered plugs which is the BKR7E.

 

No its not a requirement.. actually if I remember awhile back there was a thread about what people run in their turbo cars, and besides synthetic it was castrol!

I change my oil every 1K to 1500 miles! These motors and turbos cost to much not to spend a extra 20 bucks!

I run the bkr7e with a .027 gap on the plugs. I think there was a thread about the heat ranges for what hp.. I will see if I can find the oil and spark plug threads.

another thing about oil changes... synthetic is def better for the turbo since synthetics take more heat than conventional to break down the oil, making it the better choice for boosted apps.

the oil change every 3000 miles only applies to full conventional oil. i run my full synthetic oil changes around every 4 - 5000 miles. read up! the 3000 miles/3month rule of thumb was created back in the day when technology and oil did not come together.

dont flame, just letting some people know that 3000 doesnt always apply

 

Still as dirty as oil gets after 1500 miles of driving and boosting i wouldnt let it go any longer! When my oil starts getting that darker brown its time to go!
