My cars about to get to 90,000 miles. Its a 1996 Honda Civic EX w/ the d16y8 engine. I have about 350$ to spend. I was thinking the Prostreetonline.com timing belt kit, new spark plugs (recomendations?)

The kit comes with:
-Timing Belt
-Water Pump
-Tensioner Pulley
-Tensioner Spring

All for 184$ Shipped. Is that a good deal or could I source parts from elsewhere for cheaper. Also any other things I should do?

 

Ive already done the oil change and M/T fluid change.

Oh and labor charges wont apply cuz I cand do it at my automotive class

$184 for the timing belt, water pump, tensioner and spring?? If you're quoting the right price, what a ******* rip. Were they even OEM (exactly what you would get at the dealership)? No matter, check out slhondaparts.com - I did a quick pricing on those four items for your car and it came to $40 less.

 

If you haven't kept up with the maintenence troughout ownership, or you just bought the vehicle, I would go ahead and get it all out of the way.

Do a compression test first just to make sure your in business, then do the maintenence.

timing belt
water pump
timing belt tensioner/spring
transmission fluid
spark plugs/wires
distributor cap/rotor
coolant flush/replace
top-end treatment (this should be the first thing you do, defanatley before spark plugs anyway...you can do this yourself with SeaFoam, or pay Honda to do it for about $60)

then brake pads/rotors if they need replacing.

That would just about cover all the maintenence, without your compression being off. If you do it all yourself it shouldnt cost you but about $350.

 

Add belts, hoses, thermostat, fuel filter, set/check valve lash, set/check timing and other fluids (brake, clutch) and if the O2 sensor is still original then start saving a little for a new one.

Tie-rod ends, steering gear box, and boots. Suspension components. Driveshaft boots.


Inspect/Adjust
Drive Belt Notes


Replace
Air Filter Element (E) Notes
Brake Fluid Notes
Replace brake fluid (including ABS).
Engine Oil (E) Notes
Fluid - A/T Notes
Fluid - M/T Notes
Oil Filter, Engine (E) Notes
Spark Plug (E) Notes

Rotate
Tires
