Default d15b

my boy is giving me a d15b with a blown bottom end, i was thinking could i put the vtec head on my d15b2?? would i neeed alot of stuff to do that? will i need a new ecu? will the gains be noticable?

p.s. its a complete motor so if i needed a dizzy or anything its already there
and yeah i plan on doing the mpfi swap too

here is my advise

1) yes you can put a d16z6/d15b vtec/d16y8 head on it to make it a mini me

2) dont forget to convert to mpfi first

3) you need a p28

4) convert to obd 1

5)or buy a vafc to control vtec or some kind of vtec controller.

6) yest the gains should be noticable - cuz of the rise of compression AND VTEC

7) next time search buddy this has been covered to many times

Yea, you can do a mini me... Or better yet, if u have a couple hundred bucks, buy a D16Z6 bottom end, or maybe one someone ran it 1 mile too many when the timing belt snapped on them and swap the head on that... Just about everything exept the internals, timing belt, and water pump, will swap over from the D15B VTEC...

Complete Z6s dont sell for much more than $300, so u could probably find a block for much cheaper than that... Probably about $150...

Either way you go, do yourself a favor and convert to OBD1 with either setup...

-convert to MPFI,
-convert to OBD1 with OBD0-1 ECU adaptor and an OBD0-1 Distributor adaptor
-run a P28 chipped for the D15B
-run the wiring for VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch
-remove the oil jet
-remove the injector resistor box

Yes, if its the original P08 then it'd probably a little bit easier on you since you wouldn't have to swap out o2 sensors (it runs a single wire where as the P28 requires a 4 wire)...

would it be easier if i just put my connecting rods and pistons in it and put it in my car?

if i do that 1. would it work and 2. how hard would it be to hook up my tranny(cable)? and 3. would it f*** with my compression and stuff?

No... The connecting rods on the D15B VTEC are the same the D16Z6, and I believe the D16A6, but the pistons aren't shared with any other Honda too my knowledge... Tho there has been rumors of people swapping in Civic GX pistons to bump the compression... I unfortunately do not know the specifics... Either way, neither your pistons or rods will work in that block...

As for the tranny, you pretty much have to use the cable tranny with a D series swap... Switching to hydro on a D series wouldnt be worth the time or the effect IMO...
