FMU or Apex SAFC?

Ok, I've been reading up on all the crap I'm going to need. I am only going to run between 4.5-5 psi of boost on a stock rebuilt H23 (I rebuilt it and wasn't planning on boosting it). Now my question is should I go with an FMU or Apexi SAFC? Another question I have is if I go with an FMU what ratio should I get? 8:1, 12:1, something else? I was also thinking about chipping my ECU and running crome. I'd like to have something up and running quick and was thinking an FMU would be good enough for now. I've also read tons of times that running an FMU is the quickest way to blow an engine. I'm thinking it will be ok since I am only going to be running 5 psi or so. The reason I'm thinking of going with an Apexi SAFC is because a FMU and missing link together would cost 1/2 to 2/3 of what it would cost for a SAFC. I'm open to suggestions but I have a feeling I already know what everyone is going to say. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have another question regarding crome. Will it work with my ECU? I have a P14 and my car is an auto. I know it's OBD1. Also how do you connect your ECU to a PC when running crome to program it? I think it would be pretty easy do and cheap. The only expensive part is paying someone to tune it.

thats a wise desicion, ive got AEM ems and i love that, maybe try a hondata, chrome or neputne setup. they are very reliable and i heard that fmu's sux, but that my opinion

Yea, I think it will be pretty easy to do but the tuning is going to be the hard part ot the expensive part if I have someone else do it (which I will lol). I'm basically going for a junkyard build. I bought a Garrett T3 turbo off of a Saab, and custom manifold and partial downpipe, and a Tial wastegate. I still have to get the rest of the stuff which I hope to get after Christmas.

Idk, the guy I bought the mani, downpipe, and wastegate off of said he blew 4 engines and finally switched to an H22. He also raced with his car. He said he blew his engines running at 4.5, 7, 10, and 12 psi. He must of had a crappy tune. That's why I only want to run 5 psi and not go any higher. After a couple of years of saving I'll probably build up a motor and run a higher boost.

What is a missing link?

as soon as an un chipped honda ecu sees boost it goes into a safe mode. the missing link is a one way check valve not allowing the map sensor to see boost.

You sure do a lot of thinking.
Here's what you should do -
Spend the 25 dollars to get a chip kit from Xenocron. Desolder and solder your ECU, chip it, then either a) buy a burner, or b) have someone burn you a chip. Search through the .bin files on both PGMFI.org and Xenocron (should be fairly similar), and find a map that best fits your setup. That's 100X better that some piece of **** FMU or AFC.

I would like to run a stand alone, but there is so much information, I do not want to buy the wrong chip/equipment, plus I didn't think I could chip my '88 DX ECU. I just figured I would use the SAFC because it seems easier. But if someone could point me in the right direction as to what to get, i'd sell it and use that to have my ECU chipped, and buy a chip and burner. My biggest problem is I don't know what to get or where to get it. Good lookin out bro!

Register at PGMFI.ORG and read around the forums/Wiki. Once you have the general concept of what you can do (and by the way, you chip your ecu and run TurboEdit), contact Chris, who owns Xenocron. I'm sure he'll direct you do a solid chiping kit, as well as the other necessary stuff you'll need (burner, ect).
The Wiki on PGMFI.ORG even has step by step tutorials on how to chip your ecu, and how to run programs such as TurboEdit, Uberdata and Crome.
Simply sell the SAFC (100 bucks or so, depending) and throw that money into a chip kit/burner/soldering iron. Chris is the man, you'll hook you up.
