ground wires?
a mechanic said i should have the the ground wire coming from the battery and being grounded to the block. is this true? im asking because its currently being grounded to the chassis.
On my 92 RS, the ground cable off of the batter goes under the battery tray and grounds to the chassis, but then continues and grounds to the tranny. So it grounds to both the chassis and tranny. Is that how your newer cars are?
Wow, so on the newer tegs, the battery ground wire goes to the shock tower? My negative battery cable goes under the battery tray to the front lower fender and grounds there, then continues to the tranny.
The only wire that goes near the shock tower on my 92 RS is the positive cable that splits in two, one wire to the under hood fuse box (near shock tower), and the other wire to the starter.

The motor needs to be grounded one way or another. So, either you groud it directly from the battery, or you ground the batter to the tranny, or you ground the batter to the chassis, then to the tranny/block. Either way you do it, the motor needs groundn and the chassis needs ground.
Mine is grounded to the shock tower(body). The body is then grounded at the transmission. and since the motor is bolted to the tranny, the engine now grounded. I've since then added a few of my own ground straps using high quality low resistance stereo cables with gold plated rings. Firewall to intake manifold. Cylinder head to radiator support. And rad. and a couple more but too many too list. I found this to be cheaper than buying a grounding kit.
