siezing calipers!!!
just wondering if anyone else has this problem... is it relatively common? I replaced my left rear caliper after it siezed this past summer and now my right rear is starting to show the same signs. so annoying... in total probably about $500 (since the first one was around $250) in total for both calipers! anyone?
both of my rear calipers were basically frozen because all of the slider pins got way too gunked up to move.
with some effort, i removed the slider pins, cleaned all of the crap out, greased them up, and now they're as good as new.
cost: brake cleaner fluid + anti-seize lube
edit: i actually need to get new dust boots for the sliders as well. can't find the part #'s..

awesome... i'll have to try that. my only problem is i'm at school 14 hours away from home and don't have the parts to do it myself. but, if i wait too long, it will sieze up. thanks for the help

a caliper is very simple to change. why pay someone to do it for you?

I am not sure if they sell them seperatly, but I believe they are included in the caliper rebuild kit.

Its not as easy as u make it seem. Most of the times the bolts are rusted to ****, and EBRAKE clips are PITA to remove. The brakes will needed to bled all the way around, also u have to be extremly careful not to kink the the brank lines when working on the calipers. I guess if u are a mechanic for a living its easy, but otherwise it is somewhat time consuming.

i've never taken the rear calipers off, so i don't know about the ebrake cables, but i replaced my front rotors yesterday and the front calipers took like a minute each to take off. bleeding brakes isn't very hard, just gotta have a friend to help. i'm not a mechanic or anything, but a lot of maintenance crap is easy to do if you learn how.

the money you could've saved on labor could've bought you a simple tool set.

ok... i'm an idiot for paying $80 in labor charges knowing that the job was done correctly, not buying a "simple" toolset that i would have to lug ALL the way back home in my small integra (packed to the top as it is and toolsets aren't light), and not doing the job in the parking lot of my campus. next time, i'll do it myself. and how simple of a toolset are we talking here?
