Idle Messed up
MY idle is jacked up and its pissing me off. went to the girfriend's house last night and it got really cold last night the temp dropped to bout 6 degrees or so. We wake up go to breakfast, run some errands in her car and it got fairly warm for being December well when I decided to leave the car wouldnt start **** just went dead so I popped the hood jiggled the battery cable I didn't remove it just wiggled it then it started right up. It reset the ecu because I had to put the radio code in. well now when I step on the clutch to come to a stop or even while in motion the idle shoots up to 1500 and then dropps to 1300 then back up to 1500 if i rev the gas it will drop to 1000 but then immediatley back to 1500 takes about 10seconds or so for ir to drop to the normal 1020 when I have the lights and heater on even with them off still stays around 1020. What happened did it reset the idle speed or something did the damn cold fry something? donno what to do but its annoying as hell. Please help
Hmm, check ur battery terminals for corrosion, i had a problem with this when I couldn't start my car, just wiggle the battery terminals till soon I found out that I had a ton of corrosion on on of em and that's what was preventing it from starting, so it had a really crappy connection. This made the idle change when I did things like turn on the lights, or defrost or things that required some power and the battery was getting an intermittent signal. Also check ur grounds, when it's really cold and less humid grounds have a harder time doing their job.
I have a optima yellow top that I have had less than a year now there is minimum corrosion on it but I will clean it and see what that does, grounds seem fine no electrical probs Im going to take my car in anyway need all fluids changed I will have them inspect the idle
