Default xs power turbo?

First off, I have a '93 H22

Well, it's time to start buying turbo stuff. I have done my research (thanks H/T FAQ thread!) and know what I need. To give a little insight, I am going to turbo first and run 6 lbs with a good tune. After I save up more money, I am going to go and do the internals. Impatience got the best of me lol.

To get to the point of this thread, my friend has a brand new xs-power t3/04e that he got for his B series that he isnt going to use now. I know xs-power has recieved some bad reviews about their products but I am confident that the turbo will be fine. My question is if anyone has used this turbo on the H22? Any known clearance problems that may arise that I should be prepared for? Also, I will need a custom downpipe to be made, anybody know who can do them?

Thanks in advance

If you care about your car at all don't put XS or SS Autochrome crap on it, and any exhaust shop can make a downpipe.

Well, all the searching I did told me that their manifolds are crap. Apparently they are thin and crack easily. From what I found the turbo itself isn't bad. I do realize that they aren't the best turbo by any means, but I felt confident it would be fine since I only plan on running 10-12 lbs after my internal work. If you know for a fact that the turbos fail, please let me know. I appreciate the reply, thanks

there's plenty of people who have had a shitload of problems with them, then there's also plenty of people who have had them work flawlessly

i just got my hands on an XSpower T3/TO4E last week for my H23, and for sake-of-mind, i'm getting it rebuilt w/ garrett internals by blaastperformance, so it'll essentially be a garrett t3/to4e
and yea, any exhaust shop should be able to make you a downpipe

Yeah, from everything I've read the weak point of the turbos is the bearings and rotating assembly. Have it rebuilt like esedulerp5tenin said with Garrett stuff and it'll probably be fine.

I have had an XS power turbo kit on my 95 h22 lude for about 2 months now...yes the manifold sucks i got a MSPi log manifold,DP, and dumptube. Turbo is still doing the same as the first day i got it....knock on wood..Im only running 4psi because of the wastegate spring...but the wastegate is XS power also, just gotta have stuff done right i guess. Im also untuned due to stock injectors.

I used to run SSautochrome turbo manifold on my civic and it was good. Didn't crack, piping was pretty thick. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

would it be safe to say that its a pretty good idea to get the xs turbo kit...rebuild the turbo with garrett internals, and get a different manifold? everything else in the kit is decently usable?

just buy a nice turbo to begin with so you dont have to fool with it later on...there are some things you can get by with getting some cheaper stuff on, but a turbo is not one of them

Well, the only thing that can really convince me not to try this turbo is someones horror story. I'm not disregarding some of your opinions, I greatly appreciate them. I just haven't seen a case where the turbo had a problem and find it hard to pass up my friends. The reason he isn't using it is because it doesnt clear with the block on his gsr. And since I do not plan on putting this thing through too much stress, I feel confident that it will be okay.

The question I have yet to hear about is clearance issues, and I kind of want to expand on that.
First, does this size turbo have any common problems with clearance anywhere (i.e. the block)? I know it depends on the manifold and I haven't decided on one yet, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
Second, I am having trouble finding IC piping. All the ebay ones seem to be universal, and those are a pain in the a$$. I wondered which was the best route to take on the drivers side, I think I have seen 2 different ways, but I am still researching that at the moment. Do either of these ways require anything to be removed(i.e. power steering or AC)?

Thanks again

Yes fitment does depend on what manifold you use. My ssac manifold sucked at fitment, no ac.. I took out my washer fluid bottle thing and cut the hold out bigger and just ran my ic piping through there, just cut the piping to make it fit. I will try to post a pic of my setup if you would like.
